This article was in a newsletter I got this past week. Such a nice heart-warming story.

A touching story.....
Thank you for that beautiful story. It has started my day of nicely and renewed my faith in our young people. Jo
Thanks Brenda for sharing beautiful story. Patti
Yes, that is a great story.
YAHOO! I love seeing great stories from where I grew up. And, yes, this proves, once again, that not all "young people" are corrupt and horrid. Some of us are actually great contributors to society.
This spring bulb display is only one example of many of these in the Pittsburgh area. That's one of the neat parts of springtime there, is driving down the highways, waiting for the "spring pictures" to pop up.
I think this is a very beautiful story and think that this young man's compassion and love for people and flowers should be rewarded.
Trish, how about granting this fine young man a Garden Angel Fund subscription to Dave's Garden? I think he deserves it and we would benefit from such a nice new member.
Ursula
Wow! I never expected this kind of response to my post. What a wonderful appreciation we have here in our DG membership! :-D
Wow, that is so wonderful. Thanks, Brenda, for sharing the story. I am assuming that this is Marshall, Texas since Mt. Pleasant is close to Marshall and is also in Texas. Makes me proud!
Terrie
Actually Terrie it is in PA. The online article is from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Gosh, it's nice to read about good kids and good deeds - I know these things are happening but most don't make the news. Am glad the press picked up on this, and thanks for bringing it to us.
Great story! The bad things is usually what grabs the headlines. America has young people with great potenial! I would vote to give him a free subscription.
Brenda great read.
What a great story. Thanks for sharing with us. Kathy :)
I love a heart warming, feel good all over story and this one sure fits that description :~)
Brenda, great article, sure is good to read about young ones doing nice things instead of what we mostly hear about. Donna
Brenda...thanks for sharing :))
I wrote to this Eagle Scout, Jeremy Corll and he wrote back to me. What a nice young man. He would like to read the replies from the other Dave's Garden members; not being a member, he could only read the first post. I'd like to post his email here, but want to get approval from Dave first. Also, if it is okay with Dave, would anyone that has posted to this have any objection to my sending Jeremy your replies.
Thanks, Kathy

Kathy - you probably should email Dave and/or Terry separately about posting his email addy here....could be a while before they see this thread.
I give my whole-hearted blessings to share this with this wonderful, inspirational young man. (I tell ya.....my 14-yr old son could learn a thing or two from this young fella!) :-D
I'm curious how you ever found out how to contact him???? Did you contact the author of the article?? That's so cool that you took the time to write to him!
Well, langbr, the secretary in me came out. Actually, the article you sent also had a link to his church, which I clicked on and it had several pictures of the cross of daffodils and the welcome spring sign. On this site, there was an email address to the church and voila....
There was a story on the church site, I believe about how they have extra bulbs and are selling them. Jeremy's mother wrote me after he did and told me that they dug 70,000, and planted about 40,000 of them and that this week he gave the church $800 proceeds from selling bulbs. They said they have some left.
I have written to Dave, as I would never overstep my boundries here. I am awaiting a reply from him or Terry and if I get the go ahead I will post both emails here. Jeremy needs these replies in his folder for his Eagle Scout Badge and if it is not allowed to post his emails here, I would encourage you to look back at the link above (first post) and go the church's website and email them, like I did. It seems this story has spread across the country and I don't think that Jeremy realizes that DG is all over the world. He has received many letters so far, some from very prestigious people.
In the meantime, if you care to email me personally I would be more than happy to give you the information that they sent to me.
Happy Day, Kathy
I completely missed the links at the end of the article. It's great to put Jeremy's face with his name and see the Press Release they put out before the project started and to know that the man-hours ended up being twice what they estimated and the number of bulbs to be nearly twice the 40,000 they estimated.
Kathy, thanks for making us aware of the link to the church's web site and Jeremy's project. Beautiful pictures! I wish I could buy some daffodil bulbs (I love them!) but all our phitosanitary requirements make it impossible.
When I posted my first comment on this thread, I asked Trish please to check it. She wrote me back saying that she forwarded my mail and the link to this thread to the Garden Angel Fund Committee who would make the decision regarding my suggestion.
We already have two very fine young members (Evert and Mitjo) and I think there is plenty of room for more.
Kathy, please let me know if a personal mail to Jeremy is required to obtain his badge.
I love this thread! Thank you so much, langbr!!!!
Ursula, I think a personal email can only help. :) I think you are right about giving him a subscription. He evidentally likes to dig and plant, for even with God's work, one has to have some sort of desire to do that....in order to do that. :) I hope that a Garden Angel subscription is granted, for he truly is a Garden Angel. :) Kathy
Okay Dave gave me the go ahead to copy Jeremy's emails here. There will be two of them. Rather than me sending him your replies, I will put his email address here so that you can write him directly, if you are so inclined. It would be a tremendous boost for his record for his Eagle Badge. Happy Day, Kathy
The original story of my Eagle project was published in August 15, 2004. Here is the link to the article written by Doug Oster, which was later sent out to papers and web sites all over the country. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04228/360755.stm
I still have daffodil bulbs for sale along with peonies, day lilies, and irises. The daffodils are $2 per bag with about 13 oz. of bulbs in it (about 25-50 bulbs per bag). The peonies and other plants I mentioned are $4 per bag (they too have lots in each bag). I would be more than happy to send you some bulbs. On another note, could you by any chance be able to send me a copy of the 15 other replies about my project from ‘Dave’s Garden’. We tried to view them but we have to be a subscribed member. If you are not able to send them, then that’s ok, I just thought it would be nice to see what the other people who read my story thought about it.
I’ll make sure to say some prayers for your son-in-law. After school a group of my friends get together and we have a small bible study and we always take prayer requests, especially if they are for people who are fighting in the war, they are true heroes. God bless you and your family.
Jeremy Corll
And here is the second one I received from Jeremy's mother. :) Kathy
Hello – this is Jeremy’s mom – thanks for your wonderful email. We are hearing from people all over the country – and it has been quite overwhelming to think that the story of Jeremy’s project has touched so many lives! Thanks for taking time to write.
I think Jeremy left out a few details….
If you decide to order, you can make out a check to Jeremy Corll. Mailing address is 281 Limerick Rd., Wexford, PA 15090. If you think you have an idea of how many bulbs you want, we can weigh them and figure out a rough cost of postage. Or, we can take the amount you send and just figure out how many bulbs we can send for that amount of money, including postage!!
All proceeds from selling the leftover bulbs (after Jeremy covered his expenses) have been donated to Mt. Pleasant Church – last week he gave the church nearly $800!!!! Jeremy and his volunteer crew dug over 70,000 bulbs and replanted somewhere around 40,000, leaving approx 35,000 bulbs to sell. We don’t have a huge supply left, but enough to fill any orders that come in, I’m sure.
We are taking a trip to Alaska next summer – flying up and renting a motorhome and spending 2 weeks traveling around. My husband was recently awarded a grant from Lilly Endowment to cover a 4-month sabbatical, and this trip was part of his proposal he wrote when he submitted the grant request. We are thrilled to have the rare opportunity to take a family vacation and especially to such an awesome place as Alaska. Wouldn’t it be something if we ended up somewhere’s near where your son-in-law is stationed?
Have a great evening, and thanks again for taking the time to write. It was very kind of you. I know Jeremy asked you about the 15 responses – if there is any way you can copy and paste them into one Word document and email it, that would be fine. He is tracking all of the correspondence, and including it as part of the report he must submit to the Boy Scout Council for their final approval and recommendation that he be given the Eagle Scout Award. If you can’t, that’s ok – he has gathered many emails and letters from gardeners, and even a TV reporter from NC, a Senator and a Congressman!!
Blessings –
Debbie Corll
Kathy - either I'm missing it or you failed to post his email addy.
you are absolutely right, I must have gotten doing something and forgot. Thanks Brenda.
Here it is:
heyguys@one-online.com
I just sent an email to Jeremy. What a fine young man he is.
Wonderful. :) Yes, he is.
I just called the church and "ordered" 20 bags of the daff bulbs. :) Yes, I probably need counseling. :) I am so honored to just think of having some of these bulbs growing in my yard. I also plan to plant some at my church, my mom and dads, etc. I'll be giving gobs away, too, I'm sure.
~Carla
Bless you, Carla! Did they say how many bulbs they still have to sell?
((((((Carla))))))
I don't know how many they have left, but the secretary didn't seem phased when I said I wanted 20 bags. I called a friend who lives nearby to go and pick them up. They'll be mailed out to various folks from there and the rest sent to me.
My goal is to have a handful of these bulbs growing in every state in the country. By Thanksgiving, I hope to be able to email Jeremy and tell him what's been done with them.

Carla, that's a beautiful idea!
I still have 9 states left after going through my initial address list of DG folks and the member list here on DG of folks I either have met, traded with, chatted with or seen regularly on the site. That's pretty amazing to me. There are only a half dozen folks out of those I have chosen who I am only acquainted with. This web site is so awesome!
Now, just to find 9 more folks to complete my address list. :)
Hello Smiln
I was wondering if you had New Hampshire yet?
Linda(bilyn)
Smiln, don't know if you've sent any to me but I'd be honored to represent MA. I would contact the local newspaper for a story in our "newsy news" column. They have had articles about some local daffodil angels who plant large clumps anonymously on the Mohawk Trail. Even without getting bulbs, I think I will send her the article. It is so moving, it made me cry. We should also contact the woman whose brother originally planted them. Your project is also a great tribute to him.
Can you post the states missing from your list so we can help with your project?
Boojum
Hello
The article made me cry also, I posted it at work hoping to inspire someone.
Linda(bilyn)
Linda, You're my NH. :)
Boojum, I already have a DG'er from MA, but I'll gladly send some to you, too.
By the way, anyone who would like to donate to the cost of postage is welcome to do so. :) The states I am missing are: DE, MT, NE, NV, RI, UT, VA, WY and SD.
I have a connection in DE and RI. I'll get back to you.
You've got mail.
Boojum
Hello
Thank you smiln32.
Linda
