Would anyone else like to see a forum dedicated to Gardens around the world?
Wouldn't it be nice to visit them anytime we like? Wouldn't it be nice to know where they are, and to refer to them whenever we like? And be able to discuss the best times to visit, and the highlights?
I recently went to Orlando and would never have known to include this in my itenerary without a google, aren't we better than this?

Please help me here, my fellow DGers!
Public Gardens Forum?, Worldwide?
I second that suggestion
I like this idea too, we have some great gardens here and I'm not up to working out how to navigate the journal to put the information in. OK so I managed Biddulph Grange but that took me eons to do!
I'm not a big garden visitor as such but I do like to go to peoples private gardens open for charity, an affordable and interesting way to visit the real British gardens and gardeners that I'm sure many visitors from abroad and here overlook when they are trying to fit activities into their holidays. These are arranged by a a few national groups so the opening info is fairly easy to obtain, would this be something that could be included here too?
I don't get to travel much but I think this idea is a great one. It would be nice to know where to go visit all the wonderful gardens around. I second this motion too! :)
Thanks for your votes folks, I was wondering how I could be so alone! I have 3 gardens I would add including my Alhambra photos.
Baa, that really does sound neat about the private gardens too, wish I had known of that when I was in England!
I could image that we'd probably need at least 3 forums US, Europe and World? Any other suggestions? I bet I'd spend alot of time there dreaming....
Sounds good to me to. Have to get back to Bellingrath in the spring to take pics
Great idea! I am always finding out about gardens in places I vist AFTER I get home....
It would be neat to be able to tell where we're planning to visit and hear from others what gardens are in the area.
I think it should include all gardens that impress us, worldwide.. private or public... but only private ones if the owners agree
I agree - - - many of us know of gardens that are worthy of sharing the information. For example, I have lived in Knoxville for over 25 years and only at the suggestion of GrannyLois, did I learn about the University of Tennessee Gardens - - right in my own backyard
Palmbob, good point, I agree that the private owners should give their permission first. In my experience, the gardeners who open for charity are very open to this kind of thing but one or two might be wary.
Violabird, it's a pity there is so little information about the groups that I'm sure would be valuable to those interested in what we can actually grow here in a 'fairly' normal setting. Of course the grand gardens of the big houses are great but I find no end of inspiration from the people who are just like us! That and being able to have a yarn with the gardeners ;)
Nathalyn, absolutely on the finding out what's in our own regions. I live just 60-70 miles away from Kew Gardens and to my eternal shame, have never visited the place.
This is a great idea. Until then, you can visit www.webshots.com for some awesome photos of gardens. You would need to sign up for a free membership, then type in "botanical garden" in the search field. My search just pulled up 53,578 photos. This is only a great place to view photos, you can't chat about them. That's where the new forum would come in.
Thank you Dave!
Can't wait to start on it tonite :)
I have a book on the sugject. Norma
A simple link would do the trick, but where do we post those?
http://www.csupomona.edu/~sagarver/geo351/guide.htm
Many of those have maps and pictures.
A database is needed, searchable by Country, narrowed down by State or Province, ultimately by Town.
Ulrich, I started a "Garden Finder" thread if you want to put it there for the time being. You don't have any photos? You know what they say about pictures speaking...
No pictures yet, Vee. Without an index of sorts (DB) they'd be as good as lost anyway.
I'll wait. LOL
But .. Ulrich .. it still makes folks 'aware' that the place is there .. to visit and tour, etc!
Please post your 'link' there where violabird suggested.
So, if I'm interpreting the initial purposes ....
I'm no where near CA .. However .. if I were planning to be in or near that area .. the garden link, such as (yours) above - if posted there - would be readily available to check out and consider, as a prospect !!

OK, Mags, no problem.
Done did it.
Dave, what about the recent threads that acted as the impetus for violabird's suggestion? Should we start over posting all those photos and descriptions again, or should we ask nicely to have the threads moved to the new forum? I'd prefer the latter (or at least to have them copied to the new forum if not moved altogether). Re-enterig all the pics and info is a lot of work, but I do think they should be added to the new forum.

Hey Dave?
I kinda wonder if folks know about this new forum, I've emailed a few folks and found it was new to them. I've also tried to do a DG search for a few of the gardens but what a chore! Is there a way to let everyone know about it?
And if we find old threads, like Julie suggested, could the posters move them over here without too much trouble? Maybe they could then edit the first post to add the info we need?
As you can guess, I'm quite eager, lol, sorry! Everytime I see a website, I always wish they had more photos, especially from real people like us ;>)
So let's give them a link: http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/publicgardens/
I'm bumping this up in the hopes our new folks and old will remember we have a forum that needs our attention. Really hope someone is going to Holland for the Tulip Festival?? Or any garden that will soon be showing their spring finery, I'd love to see them!
In the absence of more postings, I wonder if we should start posting just the links to gardens along with hours and such? Feedback?
Yes this is great...I 've been thinking to suggest this for a while, so I 'm glad you came up with it. There are worldwide so many famous beautifull gardens that can inspire us and from wich we can learn so many. So if anyone is lucky to visit such a garden she/he can share her/his experience and maybe can post pics of it. This summer I hope to visit Monets garden at Giverny in France.
Edit...sorry..
Ooops huh..I 've been ill during the time the new forum is created and I 'm still picking up threads... Thanks Dave !
