Anyone ever have with the Post Office

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

intefering with your packages?

I'm calliing mine tomorrow.

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

In recent times, no. Not at all. No problems. But about 20 years ago while I was monitoring Radio Korea, they used to send me many mememtoes and prizes in monthly quizzes and various competetions they held. I used to win some of them. So, a few of the items never reached me. I had complained to the PO about it. They promptly sent a PRO to my home to inquire. Thereafter, there was no problem at all. And here on DG, all my seed trades have no problem at all. I must appreciate their effeciency. Mail pilferage was a big problem. In fact, this year is the 150th anniversary of the Postal Department.

my new one in this new town is great.

they have a place online to complain to or you can file a written complaint through the post office. good luck

Well, today I finally received one of my packages, but it was on it's "second" send, this time certified, so that I'd have to sign for it. Bless Lelan's heart for doing that. Some people on this site really go the extra mile.

Crossville, TN

Have any of you had problems collecting on an insured package that never showed up to the person you sent it to?

I have decided to not put out the extra money for this service as it is a real headache to collect....take for instance....I'll be mailing THE QUILT to Dave....I have no reciept for the cost of the quilt...as there is none. I would not collect a dime with out reciepts to prove the value!! I'll just send it priority mail and Pray! Jo

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

put tracking on it!!!! that way you know where its at.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

We've been really fortunate, living in small towns with great postal workers. The "other" delivery methods UPS & FedEx are trying to be more competitive, with FedEx offering residential ground service now, but they still don't touch the postal services prices on many things.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Well, Guess What, I had a trader send me a package priority mail with a tracking number, the dad gum po guy delivered it, and had proof he delivered it. cause he scanned it, but dang it, he didn't give the box to me, he had to of given it to someone else. or left it on some one else's porch. I never did get it, he offered to pay the shipping on it, but I refused to take it. I had one not show up a few weeks ago too. I'm not sure what to think of my p.o. person, they all know what comes in my mail. Wondering what's going on. And to top it all off, I take my packages to a diff p.o. to mail, and I think the lady there is over charging me. can't prove it though, She has an old post office, and doesn't have the meter that prints out the postage label, she writes the price on the box after she stick s the box on this old timey scale, then charges me what she wrote on the box, so she says, I've asked several traders to let me knwo what the charge was, so I could keep track and so far, she's over charged me twice. I'm going to a new p.o. now to deliver my packages. But I can't change anything about me not getting my packages. it hasn't happened but two or 3 times in the last year or so. So i'm guessing it could be just something that was a messup and not my p.o. person being dishonest.

I've never had them go through the boxes though.

I frequently have trouble getting the mailman to deliver packages. They put a slip in the box, saying they attempted to deliver when they were just too lazy to get out of the truck.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Man, we're lucky. We don't have a long driveway or anything, living in a 1950's suburban neighborhood. Our mailman makes his rounds on foot, then comes back and drops off packages using his truck.

hmmmmmm.......

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

My mail lady in the Vancouver Washington was the absolute best!!! she would tuck my plants under a bench out from under the sun cause she knew they were plants. If the garage door was opened, she would take them inside and leave them in front of the door to the house. she was the greatest!!! she never left them in the box cause it would overheat.

Just to give you an idea of the mail system here:
I sent out about 25 Christmas cards last year, not one was delivered.
I sent out a ton of post cards last summer - not one was delivered
I havent received any mail at my house
I have a subscription to a weekly magazine from the US, I am lucky if I get one every 2 months, it is delivered to the pharmacy. a place of business has better chance of receiving mail.
I ran across my mailman one day at the bottom of our hill, he asked me to deliver some mail to my neighbours cause he didnt want to go up the hill. oh yeah, the mailmen walk here, no jeep for them.
the mail is delivered once every ten days if we are lucky....
bills will come after they are due....
the mail system here is so bad that most everything is courriered or hand delivered (inter city stuff)

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

WOW!!!! I doubt anybody can top that one.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Roadrunner, you might want to insure the package anyway because they may take care of it better. Where I work is on a main street with lots of foot traffic. I f you left anything out there, it would be gone in 1 minute.

One day as I was coming around the corner of the building when the office was closed for lunch, I saw the Postman drive out of the driveway and there by the front door he had left a package. The front door is about 10 feet from sidewalk.

I called the PO to complain and the guy said the postmen are not allowed to leave insured packages outside, but can leave those uninsured outside unattended. So they obviously take better care of the insured ones to the keep their claim costs down.

I now insure most packages I send out for the cheapest amount, not because I will collect, but becuase I do not want it to go missing enroute

Gardena, CA

I have never had any problems with the PO. My mailman delivers right to the front door everyday and I receive all my packages and magazines in good condition. If its a big package, he will drive the truck up after hand delivering the letters and put it right on the front porch by the door.

My only problem is not with the PO but with all the junk mail I receive everyday.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

i had a package sent last sept to me. i recieved it on christmas eve. i went to the postal service to complain and they said they couldnt do anything about it.

it is very fustrating haveing to deal with PO people. i dont have stuff to my house in the boonies due to this also. my post man puts my stuff in the neighbors box a mile down the road. if i am lucky the neighbor gives it to me in a day or so.

so i have a po box. thats why i pay the extra 40 cents for delivery confirmation every time i send something. that way i know where its at and it can somewhat be tracked.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Imzadi, if you pay for and print pre-paid labels at http://usps.com, you get free delivery confirmation. You can only do Priority Mail and express mail options at this time. :)

Willacoochee, GA(Zone 8b)

luckily my business makes up 1/4 of the funding for my local post office....
once in awhile i mention that fed ex does a really knock up job of delivering packages and they stay in line.

we also have an awesome postmaster.

thanks for the link Gardenwife.

shoot where i used to live i about gave up having mail. i had to go there today(30 miles away) since i was there and they say havent seen you in awhile where you been?? i told them i moved but really wanted to tell them how i really felt. i have had too many problems due to that post office. i have a file where i complained so much.

Pebble i dont see how you can stand it.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Our house number is 8515. Almost once a week, we get mail for 8815 and sometimes for 6515 or the people next door. I would imagine that sometimes they get our mail, too. (This isn't the mailman's fault. It is presorted for him. He does bring packages to the door and if I'm not home, puts them behind a big flower pot so that they are not highly visible from the street.) However, in the seven years we've been here, I can only think of one thing that we were expecting that never showed up. Boxes are kind of roughed up sometimes but I can't recall if they were from UPS or the post office.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

i do not and can not depend on the tracking #'s. last year my BF in NC sent me packages with tracking #s. we both track it, but i never got the packages. happened twice. inquired from local post office and was told it was delivered, in reality i never got it! this is the reason why, when i send out, pkgs. i still worry whether they were recieved or not. due to this incident, we decided to get a post office box. so far, using the post office box, i never lost anything. an experienced to share with everyone.

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

Interfering? Like opening them??

I love the PO, never had a problem with them except for one or two boxes arriving a little dented and once, a certain postal worker dropped the packages right in front of me and sure enough I got emails from the reciprocants that they were broken.

I'm really lucky b/c I have three small town post offices where I can pester the postmasters(?) with all my questions, ect. And I do have a long private drive but our mail man is really considerate and usually leaves any boxes in a protected shady place and he'll come right up and ring the doorbell if there's any problems.

Cle Elum, WA(Zone 5b)

I use to work as a postmaster in a small town. I think the problem is with an individual in that particular area. Most of the employees take the responsiblity of mail delivery seriously [I sure did], but as with any job there can be some petty, noisy or dishonest folks out there.
as far as not having a receipt, if the quilt was one you made or had acquired sometime in the past, you can get an estimate of value that the P.O. will accept.
all systems can have problems, i live in a rural area and a friend shipped me something via fed-ex.,
there was snow and ice on my drive way, the driver did not want to go up my drive so he just left the package 12 feet up in a tree. it was weeks before anyone noticed it, the snow had melted and i had to get a pole to knock it out of the tree. heheheee

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

otterpotter, I don't remember seeing your name on DG before, but of course i miss a lot as don't have time to read all the forums. We don't live too far apart. We just got our first frost this morning. Still dark outside so haven't gone out check out damage. I live 125 miles north of Wenatchee. Donna

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)
