Ants on a Thumbergia.

Thomasville, GA(Zone 9a)

I have found very large ants on my Thumbergia plant. It is growing up a pine tree and is flowering a lot. There is some sap coming from the tree and dropping on the leaves. I'm not sure if I should spray the ants with something or leave them alone. Has any one else had this problem? I am new to this site and love it already. Love all the comments and care that seems to be here for each person.

Welcome!
Yep, the ants are EVERYWHERE here, too. And they are all over my Thunbergia's. If I was seeing damage I would kill them, but so far they have not caused any on my T's. They can be really distructive, farming ants & scale on plants. I am not aware that they are the primary pollinators of the thunbergia like they are with the vigna caracalla.

Thank you Donna. I will keep watching the ants and see if my plant has any harm done to it. The leaves are very green and the flowers beautiful. The pods are just starting to form. I have just joined these site and it is great. There are so many interesting facts and discussions going on its hard to stay away. Not much time for house work ,heeheehee.

Well the good thing about housework is it is always there. LOL
I am glad your enjoying this site so much. I love it too. It is a wonderful site with terrific people. Good luck with the ant problem. I realized I had made a mistake on my first post, I put "farming ants" instead of "farming aphid". LOL Duh. :~)
