Seedling Rubyline x Rubyline

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

well your next business trip over don't let the cute little sales men drive you lol. drive yourself and make a pit stop for lunch. I am only 20 minutes from the Cheveron Refinery in Pascagoula

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I've looked at this one several times and I like it better each time I'm here. I've reached the love stage.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

All I did was put it in a good location and give it some fertilizer and water. Ludger and Monika are the creators of this beauty

If this has been posted, please forgive, I missed it, and I do know that there are a few self pollinating brugs, is Rubyline x Rubyline a self pollinator??? It is one more beautiful brug. This is one I'd love to have and one I'd love to see in person. Is Ocean Springs on the coast, Donna???

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Yes right next door to Biloxi Sherry. You are welcome to stop by if you get down this way. She will not be available for a while sorry. I don't think she is self pollinating

Kentwood, LA(Zone 8b)

It is very beautiful DonnaB.
I am very happy for you. I`m sure glad the storm didn`t get it.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Donna, I thought that was were Ocean Springs was, but I couldn't remember for sure. I generally visit Biloxi twice a year, but will not be able to get there this fall, I was there in July. Heck, by the time I get back down there, maybe she will be ready, but I do hope I get there before then, I'd just love to see someone else's brugs instead of my own, and in the flesh. If she isn't self pollinating, why is she Rubyline x Rubyline?? Do you or any of you know which ones are self pollinating, or did I dream that there are some??? Rubyline is a beauty and I LOVE her name, anything with Ruby or Rose sets me in to orbit and generally the plants are as pretty as the names...

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

SherryLike, the members of the Rubiline (correct spelling) are all F1 hybrids out of the same cross. The flagship of the Rubiline is Rubirosa. I gave Ludger cuttings of different seedlings of this cross in 2002. They were supposed to be later identified by crosspollination. They were not supposed to pollinated before naming or seeds given away.

It is my understanding that it is from a cross of 2 unnamed Rubyline seedlings given to Ludger by Monika from her crosses. Weather it was from two different Rubyline crosses or sisters from the same pod Monika will have to answer that because I don't know what she gave him.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Absolutely gorgeous. I love the way her long tendrils swirl around so gracefully. Congratulations!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Oh good Monika I see you answered for me since I wasn't real sure about it. Does this mean that I can not name the seedling which I have?? and that this seedling is from crossing sisters that came from the same seedpod of Rubirosa??

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Gee, sure hope you can name her, it would be a shame to miss out on this one!
What a perfect beauty :)

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Of course you can name her Donna. This is no problem.
The parents of your seedling are sisters to Rubirosa but were unnamed at that time. Ludger doesnt have Rubirosa.
The problem is, that we will never know, which members of the Rubiline are the parents of your hybrid.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I understand Monika. Thank you

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Monika!! It is a slow process, but I am learning and I appreciate your patience!! With regard to naming brugs, I have a seedling, I purchased, that was naturally pollinated. The seedling it about to bloom, if the wind/rain don't rip off it's three buds - if this brug happens to be exceptional(ha) and deserves a name, who names it??? The person that sold it to me??? TIA!!!

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Monika,
I'm so sorry to hear about another one of the Ludger problems .

I was just telling a friend that I thought the European Brugmansia Breeders were so far ahead of us because of the stricter guidelines that are followed.

Not so many Willy-nilly Brug breeders like we have here at times.
The drive for instant gratification can be hard to resist tho .

...........Example ................
Just as with German Shepherd Dogs bred in Germany , they must EXCELL in many phases before receiving a Championship title as in ScH one ,two or three. (puter doesn't make Roman Numerals )
These too , are sought after by U.S. breeders as these strengths are passed on through their gene pool.

TG we DO have a large group of talented and dedicated brug breeders here , but you know the old saying goes about "the worm in the apple barrel " ?

I wish more of our U.S. brug growers would get serious about long term effects to our brug DNA.

Personally ,
I will not grow an UN-named cross. What's the use ?
If the cross is named and I do not like it, then I will be sure to not try that one again.
2 years is a long time to waste on a brug seedling that has failed me in the past.

Good Day

Please ,

No emails about which famous brug came from whos' un-named cross. That is besides the point that I'm trying to make here. TNX.

I do not understand the last two posts. Is it inappropriate to grow naturally pollinated seeds?? I feel like I woke up in the Twilight Zone, I have no idea what is taking place here. I really wish someone would explain all this to those of us that are new, so that we will not make awkward errors that might create problems...

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Sherry, your not in the Twilight zone! LOL... And it's not inappropriate to grow naturally pollinated seeds. The above poster only wants to grow seeds from brugs that both parents are known. It is a lot of work, money, and time to grow out seedlings. I wouldn't grow out certain seeds as well. I don't have the space or time. It's a crap shoot growing out seeds even if you know the parents. Although you have a greater chance of getting something worth while if the genetics are known. Look at all the wonderful progress Monika has made. I'm sure it's taken her MANY years of hard work and tracking to produce the wonderful plants she does.
Growing any seedling and keeping it is a personal choice. What is worth while to me, may not be to you. Nobody can say what is a good plant to keep and what isn't. There will always be plants that look alike or don't meet someones standards. Don't worry about making any errors, just enjoy yourself. Happy growing.
Kristi

Edited to add that I ment no offense towards the above poster. Just adding my thoughts on growing seeds ;)

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Yeah Kristi! You go girl!!!

Sherry, if it were inappropriate for people to grow un-named seeds, then some people might never get the chance to grow brug seeds at all. A friend gave me a small packet of un-named seeds last year, and one of them turned out to be a lovely plant with large, fragrant, long lasting pink blooms, and bug resistant foliage. On the other hand, I grew 80 seedlings from named crosses last year, and of all that have bloomed (60+), all were white with five or six exceptions, and only two of the whites were keepers. Someone tried to talk me out of sharing my seeds with people because I only know who the pod-parent is, not the pollinator since the birds and bees pollinated for me, but I believe everyone has a right to decide if they'd like to grow them. No sense in throwing them away if people want them for their own personal use.

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

I personally find the learning process of growing out seeds to be very rewarding. I enjoy researching the characteristics of the parent plants and experimenting with different ways of germinating the seeds. Then, watching them grow and seeing the blooms - you can find out through personal experience what you like & don't like about them. Sure, you can read about it in a book and I think you should - the more you know, the better. But hands-on experience has alot going for it as well. This process takes time, space, and money, no doubt about it. If you are interested only in getting a perfect specimen than by all means, go with crosses that an expert suggests. There's no guarantee, but perhaps the odds are better. But for learning, the seeds from an Isabella or an unnamed cross are perfect AND you do have the chance of winding up with something unique and beautiful to boot.

Just my opinion - -
Eileen

Wow! Its beautiful :)

Apropos growing unnamed crosses I had my share trying that, so I try to resist that in the future and stick with my few named pods. 'Goldenes Kornett' dropped its 2 two months old pods the other day due to all too much humidity, so keeping named pods is another problem LOL Well, I bettered air circulation and and got extra dry heat out to the plants by removing the window to the livingroom and break down the wall ... I have still two pods on EDW and won't allow them to drop prematurely if that can be helped :) Now, after several days I start to note some effect as 'King of Diamonds' and 'Goldenes Kornett' keep their buds, so pods will probably stay on as well. The air has become drier and temps. are 24*c at the cieling and 19 near the floor.

Tonny, what a delight you are, I surely needed your hysterical photo and post!! I'm so glad that removing the window to the livingroom and breaking down the wall made your brugs happy, that's what it's all about, huh??!!! I'll bet you more people than not, on this forum, would do the very same thing, too funny...

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

It is really cute...my first thought was, my DH is not going to like what maybe coming in the future! He thought it was bad now!!! :-//

I guess, that you could say that, Sherry LOL

Oh my gosh Tonny! You've got it bad! LOL

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Tonny, Tonny, Tonny, LOL, we are kindred spirits, you are sooooo much fun, and, wow, do I need it, whew!!!! May I ask, are brugs your only obsession or are there others. If there were (others), I'd LOVE to hear. I'll tell if you will, hahahahaha....
PS: My pals from Florida are Floridians. How about one from your country, Denmarkians???? I dunno - that's a question...if my son was home, he could tell me!

Kristi, nothing so bad I can't make it look good again LOL It will probably not be the last wall to fall in the house as Lene want a glass door from the bedchamber out on terracy ... that mean that I will make her a terracy too :) The wall isn't really as bad as it looks. It is a hollow wall, so I had to stuff a lot of bricks in there to prevent the cats from crawling in there, so it looks a bit messy :)

It must be Danes LOL No, besides feeding my poweranimals and singing Karygaa in the bathroom I have not lots of other passions :)

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Tanks, datdog(blue) and Gretchen!! I've had an unusually difficult day and your replies are helpful and sincerely appreciated!!!

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Who said inappropriate ? ? ?

Even In bold print , how could anyone miss the word personally? ? ?

Why is this such a hot subject that no one is allowed to post their personal opinions ?

W H E R E did I state that anyone is wrong or must abide by my personal beliefs ?

Good Grief !

I feel very strongly about preserving good DNA anywhere , surely stemming from over 40 years of breeding champion GSD's , American Quarter Horses and Siamese cats.

As I asked , don't post to me what has come from unknown crosses, albeit many beauties have been created this way.
I was not talking about that , nor was it the gist of my comments.

I am concerned with good gene pools and the knowledge to know what I am spending 2 years of MY life on.

If the cross was a miserable failure, I would not waste my time on that cross again. I have a list of crosses that I would never try again.

So this is how " I " control repeating the growing of a bad brug .

Or. ? ? ....... Maybe I was not aware that an overseer of the brugmansia forum has been seated , to allow or not allow whatever displeases this person ?

This is all I have to say on this issue for now. If some can not understand and take it the wrong way .......... Shux, ain't my fault.

she is going to be a good seedpod setter. I pollinated the first 5 blooms as they opened with EP just playing around and they have all taken. Now lets see if I can hold on to them lol.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I just came back for my daily peek at this one. Still feel the same. She's a beauty.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

gosh are we going to make Kells red jealous lol. If Kells pic is true color the red is still better than this one as nice as it is. Hoping for more blooms in a week or so. I have more pods. Shame I didn't have one ready now to see how the cold would affect the color.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Donna, yours is a sheer delight! I just love it. But of course I would since it is from the best pink line there is and I am the Queen of Pink! LOL.

I know a pink from the royal family when I see it even if she is a love child without a name.

I am counting to the day I get to see Rubirosa in person. I may have to travel over to Germany to do it, but then I would get to hug my good friend over there! In person! LOL

I wish I could remember the color of mine, Donna. It has been a while!! And my mind is gone. I am the kind of gal who loves the one she is with. Sexy Lady had me but she has just passed and fading from my memory and Suzanne is about to seduce me.

Let me go see if I can find a pic. Oh a baby pic! LOL

LOLOL Kell to funny. I still think yours is redder but maybe mine will improve in the heat of summer. We were having low 80's high and low 70's nights when she bloomed. Only time will tell. Heck I may have a heartattack is she gets any better. I really love the super curly tendrils

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

She is a true beauty Donna. And I like her that rich dark pink! Perfect! Why want more than perfection?

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Donna, have you decided on a name for this beauty or, are you going to wait to name her? The color and shape are wonderful and the tendrils that curl up make her outstanding.
