HELPING GUMLLA OUT FOR AWHILE!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I received an email from Gumlla (Kaleem) today that his ISP server said they didn't block Dave's, but that Dave's is too big for him to be able to access it, unless he went to cable. He is going to try to find a job in another city so that he can participate at Dave's again. I told him that I would help him out in the meantime, and post things for him, and email the responses to him since I have his actual email address (won't work through Dave's, as he can't access Daves right now). I am not sure where all his posts are at this point, but know the one about the kitties is on this general discussion forum.

If you see a thread that starts out "For Gumlla", but from me, it is actually his post, and he will get your responses when I copy and paste them to email for him.

Please pray for him that he can get a job in a different city, per his request.

How kind of you Karrie....

It just goes to show how this community can affect folks from all over the world. It shows that we all want the same things in life and want to share them with others.

People from different areas of the world and very different backgrounds can form close bonds and friendships. So many times DG is the only real window on the world that people elsewhere have.

Good luck to Kaleem in his job hunt and here's to hoping he's back with us soon.

I will post this and other responses to him this evening (I don't want to clog up his email, lol!)

Karrie, you could e-mail him the printable version of the threads, too. I did that for someone when she was unable to access DG for a short time. The "print" link at the top of each thread will take you to a stripped-down version that saves very well:

I had some emails from him too.. but couldn't figure out how to help him. Glad you can do so, K.

Seems very sad that he'd have to seek another job just to access DG.

GW (((((kim)))), yes, I send it that way, I think. I highlight with my cursor the whole thing, including the left part with the names. It shows up on my screen that way before I send... If there is another print option you are talking about, please let me know.

You might do "save page as" and attach the resulting HTML file. If what you're doing works, then just stick with it. :)

I think that might clog up his email. I could put them in word documents and email those - those come very small, as long as he has word, which I imagine he does. will ask.

The HTML is smaller, basically plain text thrown into tables. Word documents will be larger.

no way! a word doc, text only, is way smaller.

I took the print version of this thread and did three things:

1. The HTM file was "save page as"

2. The davesgarden.com.doc is with the page copied from DG and pasted into Word in rich text format (so the table shows)

3. The davesgarden.com2.doc is with the page copied from DG and pasted into Word as plain text (no table shows)

4. The davesgarden.com3.txt was the document saved-as plain text out of Word (no table shows)

The file sizes follow each file name. The advantage to the HTM format is the table is in tact and that makes reading through the info easier. They're all small file sizes, whichever way they're done. The HTM and plain text are the best bets, though.

Well, I just highlighted the threads to Kaleem, and pasted them into emails to him. Russ said that is htm I'm sending at that point anyways. An email client will format it that anyways, post likely.

I just want him to have a little bit of home here at Daves, as much as possible, without a bunch of those arrows and broken up script.
