Garden/Horticultural Events Calendar?

I just posted in the General Discussion forum asking about an Events Calendar Forum for those of us who are interested in attending shows, meetings, etc. but now I'm thinking the question should be posed on this forum....What do you think? (I tried to make a link above but I don't really know how to do it...) Thanks. t.

There is a place where someone could set this up outside of DG if Dave cannot make an actual calendar here. My professional organization requires a certain number of educational hours outside of our regualr practice and one of the members creates a really nice calendar for us. It would probably work best if one person mnagaed it but everyone knew who to contact to have things added.

This is what it looks like filled up:

Kewl links, Daisy!

It certainly would be interesting to see a calendar of horticultural events, including DG roundups, and especially for those of us rather new to the gardening world. :)

Dave is getting ready to make a thread for posting RU dates, and I expect it could also include other Events. It will be a read-only thread. It's not set in stone yet as we need folks to manage the data. I have volunteered.

That is great for a RU because you pretty much know when you get to that forum what you are looking for in advance.

I think that the reason to have a calendar style listing for horticultural events is that it would be nice to open it on a Saturday morning and see something nifty to do that weekend.

Thanks, everyone for setting up the new Garden Events/Shows forum/threads! http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/dgevents/

Now, I hope everyone will post announcements of the 'happenings' in their communities.

With all the daylily, rose, hosta, geraniaceae, bog garden, violet and other societies and shows (and how can we forget the brug lovers!) and garden clubs represented on DG we will be able to create quite a calendar of garden things to do! Looking forward to the posts! And Thanks, Darius and Kooger, for taking this on! t.

A calendar with 12 pages like this to choose from would be helpful as an overview. A click on the date would take you to the corresponding thread.

Ulrich, that will take a lot of manual effort to produce, but since Darius and her group are compiling all the information, all that is left to do is make it into a calendar. Do you plan to follow through with this? If yes, I can make it so that you can upload a monthly calendar into that forum.

Dave, if he does, let's hook him up with Alice (aknapp) who is handling all the RU information. I assume Ulrich can make it with active hyperlinks on the dates that will take someone to the appropriate thread?

Let's wait and see what Ulrich says.

I'll be glad to do the roundups as per the sample above. I don't think a legible hyperlink will fit into the little windows though.
Dave, it would make the most sense to me if there were a "Roundups" button on the Home Page. It would activate a Dropdown listing the Months. Clicking on one of those would go to the kind of Calendar Page we are talking about. If that were to fill most of the screen the daily boxes might be large enough.
As far as the other Events is concerned I see no way offhand to handle them like this too.

Dave....Could the code from Mozilla calendar be somehow integrated into DG, with the capability for a couple or three admins to keep it updated?

The calendar ideas will have to be put on hold for now. What we have is special forums that are indeed serving this purpose (although not exactly what we need, they ARE working). I have too many other things on my plate, so this is very low on my TODO list. We may revisit this after I get a lot of the other big items taken care of.

I'll still be here, God willing. LOL
