I've got a silly question....

Tillamook, OR(Zone 8b)

I always see or hear of exotic birds that talk, parrots, mynas, etc. But I have never heard or seen a bird speak in any other language than English, or very basic spanish like "Hola", has anyone taught their bird any other languages?

Just a fun question for a light hearted day... :O)

My grandparents in Germany had a parot that spoke German, guess they learn what they hear, as my grandparents dont speak English.

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

Raven, the ones I have heard here 'speak' Spanish.

So true, they learn what is spoken. In a bi-lingual home, they would speak both languages.

My African Grey speaks, english, doorbell, telephone ringer, back up truck beep, burglar alarm, burp, oh so many languages.

How interesting, thank you all for your input and the giggles, I have just realized how small I have allowed my "world" to become. Thanks so much for helping me realize that there is a world outside of the chatter and fighting of 5 kids and the constant drone of SpongeBob on the TV!! :O)

Raven,

I have 3 parrots and 2 dogs in the house. One parrot is a screamer, one imitates many house hold sounds just to keep me running, the other tries to imitate the other two. The dogs are barking for dinner, to go out, to come in and on and on.

And yet with 5 kids, you are a far braver woman than I, I applaud you.
