I just read about it tonight in our electric co-op magazine which I am quoting.
The show is held at the Morrow County Fairgrounds on U.S. 42 at the south edge of Mt. Gilead. There is an entrance fee of $4 per person. Children under six are admitted free.
You will see gourds of every shape and size crafted into birdhouses, animals, Santa Clauses and more. Prizes are given for the heaviest, the largest and the widest. Vendors will offer plain and crafted gourds and everything related to gourds for sale.
Competitive gourd judging begins at 12:30 pm Saturday. Foodis available on the grounds and there will be continuous music using gourd instruments exclusively. World Festival of Gourd Music will be Saturday evening at 8; Gourd Hat Contest takes place after breakfast Sunday, parade os at 2:30 pm. Billed as "World's Largest Gourd Show" because we to 43 states and 3 to 7 counties have participated.

Ohio Gourd Show, Saturday & Sunday Oct. 2-3
Esther--Thankyou for posting about the Gourd Show. It looks very interesting and I may try to drive up today. It's always good to know about these kinds of activities! t.
Darn. Every year I hear about that show (I do some gourd art) too late and think, "I'll GO next year for sure!" ... and then I always forget or have a conflict of schedule.
Here's and idea--Maybe DG should have one forum dedicated to listing garden shows/society meetings/garden tours/special speakers. Then we would have one place to check for all the different gardening events/interests (unless there is already such a forum and I haven't found it.). Darius, you are so familiar with things around here, what do you think? t.
Upcoming Events are generally posted in General Discussion or Parking Lot. I don't know that there is enough for a separate forum but it would be a nice feature.
Hi, Esther
Do you paint or carve gourds? I love going to Berea, KY Art Festivals they have wonderful ones. I love the apple gourds!
I haven't painted or carved gourds, we did grow a bunch of fairly big bird-house type gourds last year and left them outside to dry. Given away a bunch, but still have quite a few to experiment with. I probably would not have travelled all that way just to go to the gourd show, but we were in Columbus and had to go to Delaware so see FIL which is only 25 miles SW of Mt Gilead. I think I shall make a shakere and a few birdhouses this winter.
Those are lovely. You are very talented. I am remembering one of the gourds entered in the contest - it was painted as the head of a snake emerging from the white cracked shell. I don't think I would want such a thing in my house.
They ARE quite wonderful, Esther. Thanks for posting them!
Now that we have an Events Forum, if I can get notification of the dates for next year, I will post them early... and maybe even be able to go.
Thanks for posting the pics, very interesting.
I Love the Pictures Esther!
The Only Thing About These Specialty Shows is...
I Want to Immediately Start Growing or Making Something I Have Seen.
Thanks for Sharing Your Great Photos!
Excellent Price for Admittance for the Caliber of Workmanship!
