END .. Pic #12 of 12 ..
Thought some of you folks may would enjoy a lil tour ... of the home place!
And it is indeed .. for da birds!!
About four years ago, a younger sonny-law of ours .. chunked this dandy little 'log' bird house together one weekend .. just for his ol nasty mudderinlaw! It was originally built to put out in the yard, for the purpose of providing a truly neat little nest box for the birds. But .. I just couldn't see subjecting such an adorable creation and a most wonderful personal gift - to the ills of the weather. So, instead .. we opted to put it up on our front porch log wall! It sits on an ideal little homemade 'display' shelf right near the front door of our log home.
The only birds that has ever taken any interest in it, have been the lil Carolina Wrens .. However, we've yet to ever find them following through on any attempt to build a nest in it. I kindly figger it's because the waspers usually get at it, and try to set up housekeepin' long before the birdies get half-a-chance! .. hee hee .. So, I've got to keep an avid 'check' for them stinging bugs and boogers.
I felt that the miniature 'stuffs' he created and placed on the lil log houses' porch walls and floor .. were just the cutest!! Believe he'd made an axe also .. but it's sorta come up missin'! May have been one of the wrens toted it off ..heehee .. They are infamous lil scavengers!!
One year, the hornets made a fervent attempt to confiscate the place .. but we managed to get them run off .. very quickly!! I keep an ant/roach spray on hand, that boasts of 'residual' killing power .. and douse the entry holes, up in the cracks of the 'eaves' of the roof, and over behind it too .. real well!! Just the smell mingling about, is ample enuff to keep the bugs driven off! (fortunately!)
Hope you guys enjoyed seeing it also ...

What a wonderful sequence of pictures....How dare you keep us in supense. :0)
Funny~!! I spent several minutes on the first two pictures trying to find the bird nest. Ya got me. What a great treasure to have built for you.
You had me completely fooled. I thought I was looking at a cabin that you lived in. Marvelous series of pictures that gradually revealed the entire picture.
Magpye, neat series of pictures. I just got home today from my once or twice yearly junket to Reno. A nearly full busload of people, 42. A nice group and we had a lot of fun. Went to 11 different casinos. Left Ontario OR early this morning. Arrived Wenatchee about 5:00 pm, then had to drive 125 more miles to home. I did the driving from Wen. on up. Got my suitcases unpacked and thought I would sit down at the computer for a few minutes. And your pictures happened to be the first. Your SinL did a good bird building project for you. Thanks for the tour. Donna
CUTE!
Thanks so much folks .. Am truly delighted that you enjoy the bird house 'tour' .. (hee) ..
Deb, Blooms & George ... the suspense 'build up' lasted only thru the first couply pics tho' .. hee hee
Good-ness .. Donna!! 'Sounds' like you really enjoyed your bus/Reno tour!! .. Good for you!! Did you bag enuff winnings to set yourself up good for a few years, .. or, was it more just an outing with other folks and focusing on the food buffets!?! Hope you hit all the jackpots - and big time!! .. heh heh ...
notmartha and hpluver .. Our 'real' home just so happens to be a log home .. that's why the lil bird house was designed as such. It's nothing fancy at all, but not quite as 'rustic' as the bird house. Still have to deal with the wasps and hornets, here under the porch roof tho'. But I swear, it's the dadburned dirt dobbers that makes me work the hardest!! Besides, we've got a swing and a couply rockey chairs on our front porch!! Hubby and I have always dreamed of a log home ... and we feel most fortunate to have been able to do so. Having it right smack dab in the middle of 55 acres and bordering National Forest is .. an even greater blessing.
And to think, we'd first planned to live out west in New Mexico or Colorado .. but, pray tell .. the ol Coot would've NEVER been able to take the weather and cold!! Geez, he's barely 'tolerating' our NW Arkansas fall and winter weather, as it is!! .. hee hee .. Matter of fact, our lows dropped to about 42 last night. He tends to get up earlier - and when I finally got up and at it this morning . . . I find that he's settin' at his pooter reading his newspapers - all suited up like it's below freezin' and 2 foot of snow on the ground!!
.. hee hee .. The ol wuus !!
Reckon I'll keep 'im a spell tho' ... We've kindly grown quite accustomed to one another after 28.5 years ..altho we, like all other couples, have the occasions to be like oil and water - we generally, compliment the other. It's sortee like those fungus's ya see on rotting tree stumps! .. Just that neither of us is too sure which one we each are, at any particular time tho'. And bless pat, sometimes .. we'll agree to argee bout tat too .. (if'n the need arises)! .. hee hee hee ..
Wellll, there I went again .. running on and on ...
Thanks again folks!

Magpye, No I didn't make any money, it was just a fun trip. Great weather, nice people. Now I must get busy finishing fall work. This morning cut some more brug cuttings. Am not planning to take more than one or two in for the winter, so hope to get some cuttings rooted. Donna
