Could one perhaps ask our membership to add their gender (m, f, or n) to their cute usernames?

Tokyo, Japan

Masculine, feminine, or neuter....?

Are you talking about membership, or German pronouns?

;)

Are you starting up a DG dating agency Ulrich *G*?

I was thinking the exact same thing!

I think half the fun is thinking we are talking with a person of one sex, only to find out they are the other. I can think of half a dozen now. I have eventually figured it out just by being in tune to the posts. :) But there is one that totatlly baffled me for a long time and I just had to laugh when I told her I thought she was a guy. She happens to be one of the sweetest ones on her. :) Kathy

Hee hee ... Yeppers, it would definitely aid tremendoulsy .. in any of us knowing how to address each other (ma'ams or sirs) ..

And, when 'offering' up our thanks to (her/she or him/he) ... would come in mitey handy!

None of us would be risking disclosure of any further personal info about ourselves .. unless
needed otherwise. We can certainly do that thru our private messaging, etc.

Hugs & shugas to ya, Dave .. and all of your administrative staff ... for such wonderful toys to learn, share, tinker, and communicate with !! Daves IS the www (wonderful world of wisdom)!!

Thanks so very much,
Magpye

I have gotten so I ask, usually, as I get to know the person. It only matters in how we address them, or in more personal communications, but it is helpful to know sometimes. Looking at their member page, if they actually posted a photo of themselves, is a help.

And, NO, I don't think it should be noted. Takes all the fun and mystique out of it!

Who could tell "I'mWay2Dumb" was male or female? (As an example.)

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Oh, well that's got to be a male cause no woman would EVER say she was dumb! LOL!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL, I actually thought that as I hit "send"

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

heehee .. yep, those with the numbers and/or their neighborhood, etc. .. as a part of their user/call names. Darius, at this point .. I'm not even sure on what thread it was .. that I'd come to realize that you were a gal - but, for a good while .. I jes assumed you were a feller! .. hee .. Then later saw where you were explaining in yet another thread ... that your 'user' name was uniquely associated to .. (something - I've forgotten now!! It's went POOF too!) .. LOL!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Maypye,
I was also one of the ones that thought darius was a guy, lol....
I just kinda think that if someone is that interested in someones gender they should just ask. Before you know it, somebody will want ages posted as well.

And we would all tell the truth anyhow, LOL!!! Some would put the opposite just to throw us off.......:)

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Yep, we'd have those that claim .. they are '29' .. and 'holdin' ...
And .. I'd venture to say (and into most dangerous territory, no doubt) .. that a good majority of 'um/usn's .. are baby-boomers .. and well beyond! ... hee hee
Yep, in many ways .. the mystery .. is somewhat xcitin' ... but, mmmm .. still would kindly like to be able to see/know a gender ...
Ha! .. I seem to be tryin' to sortee get straddle the fence now .. haint I ? ... Ooo boy!

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Lophophora, yes, that's what I was thinking. Same as 'masculine', 'feminine', and 'not sure'.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

Ulrich, I am shocked that you have yet to add that it is incorrect to refer to a person's sex rather the correct term is gender. Being the stickler that you tend to be.......
; )

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Oh I hate that word gender, it almost sounds mechanical. And I have been 29 and holding (today I"m at my 18th year of holding)..... Darius and GG, you are a hoot! Well, y'all wouldn't really know if I were male or female with MistyMeadows.....you just conjure up "soft" thoughts about a misty meadow and assume I am a woman. :) Well, honestly, my husband came up with the name of Misty Meadows Farm, I'd have called it the Too Much Work, Too Little Fun Farm. But then again, I make no bones about who or what I am...LOL

If more people signed the end of their posts with their real name, there wouldn't be much of a problem. There are only a few names that can be taken as male or female.

If you've ever noticed, I "always" sign my name on my posts. I think it's just the correct way to end a post.

Interesting! I really have never worried about anyone's gender since it never seemed important. Seems to me that the internet is unisex and when it comes to gardening it doesn't seem to matter whether the person that answers or asks a question is male or female.

It is interesting though that when I use Zanymuse on other sites , like political debates I am always refered back to as male. But on craft or garden sites it is usually assumed that I am female. But this is the only online group that I ever mention a husband, being a Grandmother or post pictures that would identify me as female.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

The flowers do not care-why should we? I didn't realize it was a problem. You usually figure it out eventually. Life needs a little mystery lol.

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

We used to be able to tell males from females by their hair styles and clothing. That is no longer true. Boy o boy, do some of them get upset when you guess wrong!
:~(

Lol! My son has hair that is quite a bit longer than his sisters so........... He takes it in stride. They look like twins anyway. I am an old 60's kid so I do not care. He might as well enjoy it while he still has it. (His dad is bald.)

(Ulrich the easiest way to tell is: plaid boxers showing above the baggy hanging pants is a boy and the g-string showing above the tight low slung pants is a girl.) I have to wonder how those poor high school boys learn anything.

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Not to mention the tattoo at the small of the back. LOL

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Glad our public high school passed a dress code - no skin, boxers or strings allowed to show. No spaghetti strap tops either. Hope it helps those raging hormones! lol
