sneaky "car buyer"

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

I'm so angry I could spit nails ! I've had a 'for sale' sign in the window of my good old '86 Toyota flatbed pickup for about two weeks. We are on a subdivision street and don't get a lot of traffic so when this fella knocked on the door wanting to look at the truck I was a bit surprised, particularly since he lives,reportedly,20 miles south of us.The truck hadn't been run since April or May and the battery was too low to start it. We hooked up jumper cables to his "partner's" new van and I hit the starter while he was under the hood, still wouldn't start.Said he'd heard I would take half of the posted price, and I should take the money, that he'd take it the way it was 'cause he needed a truck now and wanted the flatbed.Sounded a bit odd,and I already had a tune up scheduled 4 days later. The garage man found that "someone" had switched spark plug wires. After a minor tune up the baby runs great.Funny that the next day another 'interested party' stopped by.I guess honesty is an unknown word to some people.

I don't get it.... he switched your car's wires so it wouldn't start up well? Boy am I daft when it comes to cars!

What a jerk! Im glad you didnt fall for that and had it checked out anyway.

CaptMicha, you would be surprised at the audacity some people have and the extremes they will go to so they can have thier way. Unbalievable.

CaptMicha, he made it so it wouldn't start so he could get a better price, claiming it wouldn't even start. Sneaky jerks, some people.

When I worked in Mass. years ago the cops picked up a guy who would reach under a 240 Volvo and unplug the fuel pump while you were in the store. Claim to be a Volvo mechanic, sell you a cap and rotor for twice the money, plug your pump back in, and collect the profit. He got caught when somebody came out to thier unstartable car and he wasn't watching close enough. They had it towed to us and we told them what was really wrong. Then the cops got involved and found the creep. With new cars this sort of stuff is much harder to do.
