I don't know the name of this one but it was in a pack of mixed seed. There were blues, fushias, whites and pinks.

It's definitely Ipomoea purpurea. The come in a range of colors, from 'Milky Way' to 'Knolian's Black'.

This one (#30 from china) has been blooming for a couple months, but so far only has 1 seed pod. I have roots on some cuttings I took a couple weeks ago. Has anyone ever kept cuttings alive until spring?

What vendors are you using to get those gorgeous ones from overseas?????? I would love them all, LOL, great pics, I want, I want, Annie

Franklin, WI(Zone 5a)

...I'll have to check what I planted in that pot and I'll let you know. Trying to find my records could prove an overwhelming challenge! I've just GOT to get more organized! I'm taking a mini seminar at UW Madison in early November while I'm visiting my daughter at freshman parents weekend. The name of it is "Clutter Control". I sure hope it helps! LOL!

Are any of these MGs controllable (non-invasive?)
Terrie

Shepherd, TX(Zone 8b)

The only ones here that I know to be possibly invasive are the red cypress vine, and the I. purpurea varieties (Milky Way, Grampa Ott's, etc.). All the others are hard to either get seed from at all, make very little of it, or just enough that you're able to harvest it without worry that you'll end up with a million volunteers.

The leaves are cruddy but my "Chocolate Silk" is still going strong.....

Last fall there was a trader from China who posted on a couple trading forums wanting clematis seeds. I received 9 or 10 different Jp mg's, but only 1 or 2 seeds of each. This is my 1st year growing these large flowered ones and while the flowers are unbelievable, I've had no luck with seeds. Only 1 (#30) produced seed (1 pod so far & not even dry yet)! It didn't start blooming 'til Aug, but she's still blooming strong, inside under lights, so I have hope. I've also taken some cuttings, they've all rooted...now we'll see if I can keep them growing thru winter.

QueenB,
More than the reseeding part of it, I'm interested in MGs that do not send 20-30 foot runners through my flower beds and choke out other plants close by. Is there such a thing?

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

There is one that is called "Chidorii" I think the spelling is right that only growes to be about 18" in length. Lots of folks use it in hanging baskets or so I'm told. I just bought some seed for it on e-bay to try next year...

Thanks, Dee. I'll look that one up!
