Kathy, is there a game warden that can come out a check for a nest!!!!! The photo looks like a baby one>

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

yes it is a baby one, i've seen quite a few of them on on the front porch, but within months of each other, so they have to be a diff nest of them.

we do have game wardens didn't know they did that

oh gracious yes .. it's a CopperHead baby .. And they are just as poisonous, as the adults .. and far more willing to bite quicker too!!
You didn't mention it, so are we to assume that hubby didn't get bit, right ?!? Sure hope not ..
Our lil heinz 57 variety P'nut pup got bit by a baby Copperhead a few years ago, on the pad of one of his front feetzers! And the little joker wouldn't let go of his grip none too soon either!
Po' pup, his whole leg swellled up!
kathy_ann the way our weather has been .. cool and then warmin' back up, & coolin' again .. there's just no tellin' how many more poisonous snake 'babies' we're gonna see, before our summer time is over!!
Thought everybody knew to put on their shoes before they head out the door, after dark ... especially!! The bite wouldn't kill an adult .. but the wound can sure cause ya some problems! Do be careful guys!!

no he didn't get bit, and we never go around anywhere barefoot, but do wear flip flops everywhere, he just stepped out on the back garage, on to the carpet, and that dang thing was sitting there right by the door, dh said he ws getting bugs and flies LOL

he was lucky. scarey thought, being bit by one of those things, never saw an adult around here, just babies, thank goodness

Kathy, that is definitely a baby copperhead and as stated above, they are more aggressive and poisonous than the big ones. If you've seen more than one, than I would certainly call your fish and wildlife people and ask them to check out your place. You could have a nest and that's not good. Little ones grow to be big ones to have more little ones. We had one on our steps about a month ago and DH killed it and I walk very carefully now, especially at night. I never go barefoot outside. I used to be able to when I lived up North, but with all the snakes and ticks and spiders around the South....nope, not taking any chances....Hope you get some answers, Kathy

we went out back last night, on the way out there, about 400 feet from the house we found another baby copperhead, just alittle longer than the one pictured here, makes me nervous, that there is a nest around here.

these two snakes have to be from the same nest

The CopperHead mother gives birth to live young, with a litter of 2 to 10 babies .. in August or September. The young leave their birth place immediately, and are on their own afterwards.

There's a wee bit more info at this site, from the University of Missouri Extension Ser. ... http://muextension.missouri.edu/explore/agguides/wildlife/g09450.htm
