I recently got invited to work there. The HCX stands for Hair Color Experts. Apparently they only do haircolor and cuts. I had never heard of them before but one is opening less than a mile from me. Anyone ever heard of them or better yet gone to one? I plan to go back into the hair business after the first of the year and I am checking out my options and competition. LOL
Anyone heard of HCX salons?
Bads- It is a new concept franchise getting ready to hit pretty big. I know a broker who sells these franchises, Mail Boxes Etc, UPS Stores, Curves, etc. They are expecting it to succeed as Curves has done.
The guy who started it is a guy who started Subway so there is a huge support infastructure there, very important for any franchise. As for working there, I think they are looking for good stylists and are providing a lot of training for the stylists from their own trainers. Plus I think that they are offering a lot of incentives for more creative types than most chain salons.
The salons are not cheap either. They start at $300,000.00 for one salon! But Mr. Subway is very picky (he ONLY sells Subways to folks who already have Subways up and running). As for competition- working there will certainly give you an idea of what concepts they are missing so that you can form your own niche and you can always take your clients with you when you start your own business.
BTW- Regis now is the biggest owner of these chain type salons like Supercuts and Fantastic Sam's and they need a good kick in the rear from a new idea like this.
Can you tell I have far too many freinds who are stylists and spend far too much time in franchiseville? lol
Michele,
I haven't heard about it yet, but if it new, it will be here soon.
I'd go for it girl. If you don't like it, or find out it's not going to work, you can always move on. You haven't been away from this work for too long, so you should be able to catch up on all the new techniques. I used to love to do color jobs, especially since that's where all the money was in my time. lol I'm not that "old"....but it's been 33 yrs. since I've worked in a shop.
As you know, color is the big thing in the industry right now, and the prices are sky high out here. My hairdresser is always going to new shows and classes to keep up on "what's hot".
I'd think it would be more interesting than what your doing now.....and more flexible hours.
Donna
Thanks a bunch! I have always been a whiz with color. I have a natural talent for doing hair, have since I was very young. My first job out of school was at one of the highest ranked, most snooty salons in Cincinnati. Now that one has several larger salon/day spas. I left there because I just didn't have the *attitude*. LOL After that experience, I found I much like the smaller neighborhood salons better. I have to go take 16 hours of classes then I am back in business. I have been renewing my license but left it in escrow because I knew I would go back to it someday. I left when I was pregnant with my second. The position I had then is still open to me. The biggest perk to going back there is coming and going as I chose, wearing what I want, scheduling as I please and having my own keys so I can work when I want. I don't think I want to do nails anymore but that option is up to me as well. So far as I understand HCX, they guarentee hours/salary, training and fair pricing for clients. I did send off an email and someone wrote back asking for a resume and said they want to interview when they are back in town. The salon should open in November. I'm still thinking on it. It is nice to know more though.
Daisy, I nearly moved to Newport Beach when I was 20. A friend of mine has/had a salon and home there and had modelling oportunities for me. I chickened out. LOL I have not heard from him in about 15 years. He used to fly in and do hair here every 5 weeks or so and I assisted him.
oh wow will you do my hair. ???mini?
ely
LOL I would gladly do your hair! Pay me in ears? LOL
Yeah.. I never have any colors in my hair.. until I done to my girl's hair.. Now I want to add some color in my hair.. add red? lol
My highlights have grown out. I'll be needing more soon, 'Chele...It'd be worth the drive just to visit with ya, too. ;)
Color?? Heck, I just need a hair cut! Probably oughta get one b4
Winter sets in, eh? (Or should I just keep growing it out for Locks of Love? Wonder if they take reddish-gray hair?)
Shoe,
You better keep it on your head to keep warm over winter!
Hehehe...yep! I normally try to cut it once a year, whether it needs it or not. (I'm sure you could tell at the Roundup, eh?)
Maybe I better keep what I got, just for winter warmth. Besides, I noticed my nose hairs are starting to thicken up already...that's usually a sign around here that we are gonna have a rough winter. (TV 5 has been leaving phone messages asking about my cilia growth...guess they need to update their forecasts?)
Oh Tricia, I did not know that you dye Sammi's hair look different so wonder is she still want more dye?
Chele,
Just curious about what's happening regarding you getting a job here. Have you found out any more info?
Donna
Hi Donna! Apparently they are opening in November. The lady that interviews lives in another state. She is supposed to contact me when she comes back to town. In the meantime I just took care of my classes and tests. I am just waiting for license renewals to be mailed out then I am back in business! I think I will go back to the last salon I worked in and go from there. Ideally I want my own salon in the near future but.... Big things have finally started to happen for Craig lately so I am sort of marking time and riding the wave. The next week or so will be crucial for decision making. Keep us in your thoughts. :)
Hmmm....I'm still thinking of getting a hair cut this year...wonder if I should drive to Ohio.
(I tend to shy away from crewcuts, mohawks, and "regular" haircuts though...dare I come?)
Shoe, I'd watch out getting a haircut from Chele.....she has 6 girls ya know. lol
Thanks for the update Chele, I will be keeping you all in my "good thoughts". I hope Craigs hand is healing nicely too.
Donna
Badseed, am watching and waiting to see what happens.....good luck next week with the decisions. BTW, I need a haircut too. Shoe, I will meet you there.
Donna, I trust BS completely. :>+ (hehhehhe.)
Weeds....will see you at BS's....I'll bring blue soda, for our nerves.
Great, I'll bring us a hot toddy.
Shoe.....;-)
Blue soda, shoe?
Me I like orange crush but I dont need a haircut- I need a hairgrow.
Ahhhh, yessss.... a hot toddy, and a blue soda! Ain't nuttin' like 'em!
daisy...a blue soda can also be crushed, but only after it's empty.
At least Chele won't just slap a bowl on your head and cut it that way. No, she'll just slap ya.
