The force be with you, Luke.
Do you still have hummingbirds?
Monterey, when are you coming over to take pictures of my hummers? Huh? Pleeeease???
Fantastic shots, thanks so much for sharing!
Oh, I can only dream of CA and hummingbirds.
Some will over winter in the Gulf States. Hope we see some hummer shots from ya'll, too.
Well, no more hummingbirds for now, but the Piliated Woodpeckers have come back!
Oh, yes that is one of my favorite birds to watch for. We have a family of them behind my house. I see them occasionally fly across our 3 acre field to another woods, but I usually have to hike in to get a glimpse of them. They sure can make a loud hammering sound!
My husband and son hunt so they see them often.
We also have several other varieties of woodpeckers around that come to my feeders.
Does anyone know if they are blue listed?
Teresa
Blue listed?
It is a list of birds that may not be endangered but are on decline.
I may try to Google and see if I can find a current one.
Teresa
Oh. I was thinking it was something like that.
You still hav'um?
I have Anna's all year....they don't leave.
The hummers had a very bad day today. A large flock of tiny migrating birds took over my huge mexican sage in the front yard and a different kind of bird found the grass seed AND the sage in the back. The hummers were willing to let them have the grass seed but were not about to share the sages. It was hummer patrol at its finest. I have never before seen them cooperate on anything. Cheap entertainment!
Oh how wonderful! That would be awesome to have witnessed.
May I post a totally unrelated subject -- no need to reply -- if you have any information about the location of Paper Trish, please contact the Paper People forum. She's MISSING! (gasp here)
Too bad we can't share video clips. I imagine that day is coming.
That's true about the plants being key....feeders only give them just so much....plants give them nectar, but plants give them protien in the way of insects, as well as a more natural nectar.
My Anna's visit my fushias and my salvias as much if not more than the feeders.
Rich, "Most (must?) be hungry coming in closer" is maybe the best hummer photo I have ever seen! It is just beautiful. Makes me think "how can this shot be made into a Christmas Card?" "Is there software that makes cards?" "I bet Rich would give his permission." Etc., etc.
Your hummer pics are outstanding! They are such characters!
