Do you still have hummingbirds?

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I am in KY and I have two regulars at my feeders. How about you folks? Oct will soon be here and they will be gone!

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I still have some too. Not as many, and I don't see them as often, but they are still around.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

I have year round hummers here. The migrants move on and the Anna's that OWN my yard will winter over here. No rest for the feeder filler. Lol.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

There still here!

Paris, TX(Zone 8a)

Mine are still here.

(Zone 7a)

not seen in our garden since Sunday, 9/19/04, at the usual time and places. Informal poll to neighbors is also negative. One neighbor said he saw the hummer as late as October in past years.

Rock Hill, SC(Zone 8a)

Mine are still here, had to fill up one of the feeders today. They are still busy on my flowering plants and the feeders. I usually keep the feeders out late for the ones passing by when they migrate.

Cochrane, ON(Zone 2b)

Mine left on Fri. (09/17). A week earlier than last year.

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

Took down my feeder last week because I had not seen any for at least a week.
Yesterday, one was feasting on my flowers . . . I'm sure he was just passing through !!!

Edwardsville, IL

Still have about 10 out of about 60 here, but fewer every day :-(

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

Still some here, but migrators, not my summer crew. I expect they'll be gone soon. Last year they were gone by 2nd week in October.

White lk, MI(Zone 5a)

I still have some, which is really late in the season for me.
Enjoy!

Rascals! I will keep my feeders out just in case these guys want to stop by on their way south! Will keep the light on.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I still have two females at the feeder this morning. I have it on my kitchen windowsill. So I can see them while I am making coffee.

Has anyone read that males leave first? I have somewhere. I think it also takes two years before the red on the throat shows up. I am going to miss watching them.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I have not seen any since I returned from the KYRU Sunday night. I'll leave the feedrs up a few more days for migrators.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Click the ruby throated migration link and read the discussion. Talks about how long to leave them out. Cool site for when they return too. :-)

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks John....great site! :-)

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

It is isn't it?

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Loved seeing the distribution maps....very cool!

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Very! Cool project they have started, too.

(Zone 7a)

'ppreciate that site, too, John.

Did anyone else notice any drastic changes in places vacated by the hummingbird? In the double border of Salvia 'Purple Majesty', hardly any bees were to be seen while hummers ruled.

The very day after the hummers disappeared, Monday, 9/20/04, the canyon of sages was swarming with all kinds of winged critters - bumble and carpenter bees, little hover flies/wasps, moths, etc. They seemed to appear out of nowhere.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Your right bluespiral!!! I just realized that from a photo op this morning! There were flying insects galore at my Salvia. So thats why!

Paris, TX(Zone 8a)

I had just about decided they were gone, and had gotten lazy about changing the water. I was all ready to take them down, when yesturday morning I saw two. I'll check out that site to make sure I don't do this anymore.

(Zone 7a)

Based on the gardens of ourselves and our neighbors, over the past few decades, there seems to be as much as a 30 day lag between hummer departure and sightings of laggers.

If I remember correctly, our newspaper reported sightings of a hummer persisting well into winter in the Butterfly Garden next to the Natural History Museum in the Smithsonian Mall in Washington, D.C. We live about 12 miles SW of Baltimore.

Still, it's going to be a long time 'till spring. argh

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

The anticipation of spring begins!

I wait for spring!

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I counted 4 today...4 seperate birds.....7 actual sightings. Yesterday I scrubed/scoured and refilled all the feeders. Figured it would be the last time before putting them away.....but with temps in the 70's, who knows.
The seem rather happy with my obedient plants, salvias, and asters too.

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

Send them here. I have plenty of room.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

I am sorry to say that they seem to be gone here. Didn't even see a butterfly today.

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

I thought that's where they go to your area.I just bought Salvia leucantha Mexican Bush Sage today. It limits itself when it gets colder here but for now everbody likes it.

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)
