For those of you following my search for housing, I have found a place to live! Photos posted at the bottom of this thread: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/446208/
I have a new "home"!
WONDERFUL!!!
Looks lovely and so very peaceful. So glad that you foound a home to hang your shovel..
wow it looks GRAND so happy for you
Darius, I'mn so glad for you, especially after all that Ivan had to dish out. You came through two possible disasters with one happy conclusion. I'm glad to see you so blessed... and your aging aubergine cat too.
Thanks, Agrinerd across Chunky Gal! Guess you missed some of the mess Ivan dealt to Macon County?
You betcha! The only hardship I suffered was half-a-day's paycheck. Others in my county died, while many are still without homes, power or phone service. Consider us blessed. There's more in the "Weather" forum for those that missed the panicked search for Darius and others in Ivan's path.
Agrinerd, I have a friend in Macon's EMS... the Peek's Creek disaster is still to be fully told. Just glad you are safe.
I feel blessed to just have lost power 4 days and only had 4 trees down over my road out to a county road.
It's about time! The place looks pretty good to me and if the creek didn't flood it out after Ivan it should be safe! I love the look of it and shade gardens are my favorites.
Darius it is truly beautiful. The crik is perfect and even has rocks for sittin' on so you can just watch the water go by or maybe even go serching for crawdads, cool. Dont worry about the kitchen size, that means your messes in the kitchen can only get so big, LOL. Oh and to be able to garden yourself again, now that is as fantastic as that crik you got yourself.
Your going to have to make sure you unpack your gardening tools along with your books so you can plant your hostas finaly, and I see a spot near the crik that needs a fern or two.
(((((Darius))))) Congrats girl.
D'Cat.. I'm really looking forward to lots of ferns and hostas planted there. Plus, I have a few trilliums and solomon's seal and will be on the lookout for more native shade plants now.
Mark (the new owner) has all the old iron burgler bars from the windows stored and I may be able to use some of them to help define an area. My main garden area is a naturally-shaped shallow bowl, but the area between the house and creek needs a LOT of TLC.
The creek will remain a flooding potential at least in my mind since we only got half the rain from Ivan that they got 40 miles east of here. Guess that means my good books never go on a bottom shelf, LOL.
The burglar bars might make handy grated table-tops for pots and flats... just an idea. Looks like the creekside has some nice spots for Teaberries. http://www.mta.ca/~rthompso/nativeflora/group4/Page41.html
Those look great, Agrinerd. Thanks.
Not sure Mark would let me use one of the narrower burglar bars for my pots (good idea!), but the large house next door will be undergoing renovation into a B&B next spring and they have the same bars they will probably remove.
I guess the bars date from a time when there were very few vacation homes here, all left unattended all winter and they felt the need for more security. We saw that in Boone all the time for years until the population built up.
You're going to make it look so wonderful they'll let you stay for free. :)
They may even hire you as the live-in gardener! (a favorite, yet unfulfilled fantasy of mine)
Goody Goody Darius, so glad for your wonderful landing. You must be part cat too, landed on your feet.
