Wow, inanda! Thanks so much for that info. This bulb-newbie can use all thi help I can get :)
Donations please!
Ginny - great tips. I didn't know you could soak lily bulbs. All the growers emphasize the need to keep the moist but in well-draining soil so I figured they could rot easily. Comet and ajax for bulb scoring - who'da thought it!
Boy, the things I learn on DG! Thanks for the tips...
And what does the ajax/comet do?
If you are serious about buying this bulb and scaling it, I'm in for a share of the cost if you still need another person. Let me know.
Ajax/comet cleanser rubbed into clean bulb/rhizome wound is a good disinfectant.
For wasp traps, a TBL sp. cleanser mixed with strong smelling oil -like salmon - tuna etc and put somewhere where cats can't get at it, is a good wasp nest killer. They take ajax whatever back to nest and it kills them. However, don't forget that some wasps are good pollenators. I only do this for yellow jackets in the fall, when they become a pest around our table, or with kids eating outside.
Inanada
I'm in just let me know how much of my bucks you want and where to send it!!!!
Forgot to tell you when I can I will take some photos of some I scaled about 9 weeks ago. They are really cute to see!

Love to see some pics. We've decided to decide in the spring - so late already. :)
I love it! A co-op for one bulb! LOL. Too much... But I'll be ready in the spring-checkbook in hand and chomping at the bit :)
Here is a secret for you all. Instead of sun God, do a co-op from Valley K in the spring and order Night Flyer. Very very black, just beautiful.
Inanda, still planting/moving the odd lilium in the rain.
LOL, Inanda. I think I'll be doing the same.
Are you all as sick of rain as I am?? We've had 5 days straight of no sun, gloom and drizzle. I feel like I've been transported to Seattle or something! All I've got to say is it better start sun shining this weekend so I can plant the last of my coop bulbs from Alice!!
Hey...5 days isn't bad....we haven't seen the sun for 12 days and then it was only for 2 hours...I've had about enough of this doom and gloom....all I want to do is sleep.
I SAW THE SUN!! Only about an hour before sunset, but it was there. Yea!!
The sun came out & it's going to be warm tomorrow! YES! I was afraid it would be spring before I got all the new lilies planted....
Kooger, I'm only a beginner in Lilies since my main love has been daylilies/iris. I still have alot of the simple lilies to collect before I start craving the expensive ones...
shazbot - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!! Have a good one!!
inanda - thanks for the tip, will check Valley K out too!
Thanks, kooger :) Is my SunGod birthday bulb in the mail?? LOL. Ah-hahahahahahahah!
ahahahahahahaaaaaa - back at you!!!!!!
8^D!!!!!! Hey, a girl can dream...
Dream all you want Birthday Girl!
LOL. I guess I'll hafta :)
I promised I would post a photo of some bulbs that I had scaled and finally remember to shoot a couple photos of some that are ready to put into pots.
These were done just by shaking a few scales in root hormone (I think I have used 3 different kinds so I don't think it is really important what you use) in a plastic bag and then taking them out with a cupped hand and shaking off the excess hormone.
Then I just stick them in a bag of slightly damp vermiculite get as much air out of the bag as possible and then just close it up and put it in a cupboard for 2 months.
This is what greets you after a couple months, all though these were probably in there more than that, because I have had a lot of other things going on.
I am hoping between the two photos you can see the new little white spots of growth on the scales themselves, and also all of the roots that have developed.
I then just take them and pot them up in small pots until I think they are big enough to be put in the ground, which varies depending on what time of year it is.
Just look at them cute little babies starting to grow... super cool, Alice. (Looks like a moon map, at first glance!) :)
Thanks, Alice! On top of a great coop hostess you're also a great Mom!! LOL
I actually was doing some reading up and watched an online video on one of the regional Lily societies' pages Friday night. I've got all mine planted except those from your coop so I think I'll give it a try with a couple of those.
You know, I learn something everyday--cool way to get babies! Don't you wish WE could reproduce that easily?
lol AMEN!!!
I already have mine cookin! Hope to have 6 more little Blackjacks next year.
sooo, Moby, does this mean you are expecting sextuplets???
Only if I'm lucky!
LOL Should have known you would take it THAT way! LOL
Thank you all for a very informative thread. I have learned a lot... It is off to town for me tomorrow to get some vermiculite... I have 4 scales to try this out with!! They came off by accident and I wasn't entirely sure how to do this... should be fun... Taking a couple of scales off each bulb seems like a great way to increase your numbers quicker.
Did anyone ever order Sun God?
not me lol
Kooger, WHAT? I guess you didn't beg good enough, huh? LOL
Think this southern Cdn is bit of a dreamer. How many gallons of gas can you buy for $60? At least think that was the cost of SunGod last time I looked.
Inanda - where all her martie scales are growing well.
It's a finely developed art.... I'm practicing!!!!!!! lol
I've spent 20 years begging for peace & quiet from my kids--and the END is in sight. Lord, please help this last one graduate and go to college. Since both my daughters think they're smarted than me, they deserve what the world will throw at them --and I'll get my quiet...
LOL - only 2 years to go here!
Dear friends,
The latest 'trend' is for kids to come home and inhabit parents basement or whatever. Reason is cost of housing. Plus of course, student loans. Be warned. It can start s -just a few months Mom till we get things sorted out - hmm...... Two years later .... trying to regain your empty nest .......
Just a thought.
Inanda who has watched this with her friends
