Looking for Garden Angel help

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8b)

Hello :)

In past years, the task of choosing who would receive help from our Garden Angel fund has been placed on the admins (Dave, Terry, and myself). It has become increasing difficult for us to accomplish this task, due to time, and size of the membership. Thus, we'd like to extend an invitation to the membership for some help :)

What I'm looking for is a group of members who feel "plugged in" to DG. Do you read many of the forums? Are you able to spot someone who may need help?

Additionally, I need people who are willing to make a tough call. Based on posts (or lack thereof) of members, are you willing to make a call as to whether or not someone _really_ needs help, or is just looking for a "free ride". These are the tough calls to make. We don't want the Garden Angel fund to be taken advantage of, but we also absolutely want to help those in need.

The members of my group will be anonymous (unless you choose otherwise).

While there are many who will need the GA program starting now, the issue comes up through-out the year, so this is an on-going commitment.

If you are interested in helping out, please DO NOT RESPOND to this post. Instead, please send me an email. From those who email me by tomorrow at noon, we will pick a handful (about 5 or so) to help out.

Thanks for your willingness to help out!

Trish,

I'm just curious if the Garden Angel fund is sufficiently funded at this time or if it could use some additional "cash" inflow.

Carla-

The Garden Angel Fund currently has slightly less than $100 in it.

Oops, sorry, I told you wrong Trish. There is actually $246.95 in the kitty.

Well, I know the KYRU will be having a silent auction, so that will provide some extra $$$. And when the quilt tickets go on sale, yikes! That will also add some money to the fund. I'm not sure how often ya'll are asked to help someone out, but I think it's great to have this available for folks. I also think it's a great idea to have a group of folks to help make the decisions as to who receives help.

$.95????? Naahhhh, I'm not even gonna ask why the balance isn't in whole dollars.... (*grin*)

There is a very good reason!!!

...but we're not gonna hear it?... lol....

A member got angry during the brug wars and left the site, requesting that I give the remainder of their subscription to the GA program. Pro-rated, the amount came to exactly $2.95.

The brug wars? Wow. I'm glad I don't grow brugs. The way you worded it, Dave, made me smile, though.

I think this is a really great idea !!! I think along with the $$ a lot of us collect seeds we could send to one person to send to the person that is sellected ,, I have a ton of seeds to give away and I would rather have them go to a person in need then trade them,,
