There were 3 colors..light ..medium..and dark...on this same plant! And no..it wasn' the age of the bloom either..they all opened at the same time. But one closed up before I got a picture of it.

Maybe the weather had something to do with the difference in colors. Mine have all been acting strange all summer, now they are coming out with deep colors. Have had very few blooms, it has rained a lot and not been much above 70 degrees.

Just want to say, all of mine in just the last few days, are going to make up for lost time, they are loaded with buds, one has 3 blooms that should open tomorrow, a beautiful yellow/orange, no-name, got it in a coop. Might put pic here tomorrow and see if someone like Kyle can tell me the name.

If the tips of the stamen are a bright orange it probably is. Kyle ID'd mine for me a couple of years ago and I have never since seen another until I saw yours and not Marcy's.
This summer I found one at Home Depot for around $8.00 and it has the same personality . . . blooms like crazy - mine had 8 blooms on it at one time a few days ago. And it blooms like crazy in the winter in my South window.
I have a single dark pink that is doing the different color thing. It is very deep in some bloom flushes and lighter pink in others. No idea why. But if you saw the two sets of blooms together, you would swear it's a different plant. don't forget to fertilize your hibiscus! They work hard making all those pretty flowers for us.

lazygirl1...pretty much looks like mine. I can't tell..does it have any pink in the center? Mine has just a little dab of pink on the petals.
Yes mine does have a trace of pink on the edge of some petals.....Can't tell if there is pink in the middle, I can't see the middle...... So I guess it is Holly's Pride...

Oh gosh Marcy....no we haven't had snow in Iowa yet. It probably isn't far off and I know that none of us are looking forward to it, but it is going to happen whether we want it to or not. I believe Arlene's picture was from last year. Sure is pretty.
These have to come in for winter? They are just beautiful have a double yellow its tropical so it headed for house soon .it was sent to me by my church after my surgery .

Brugie is correct; that pic was taken in Feb of 2002; my tropical hibiscus bloom best during the winter indoors. I hate to even put them outdoors during the summer; wind, hail, bugs etc. During the summer Iowa's climate can be very similar to the tropics - humidity and if we are lucky some heat.
The tropical hibiscus is the one indoor plant that doesn't need to go dormant. You can fertilize it year round and enjoy the blooms. When it needs a rest from blooming it will take it no matter what you feed it.
The only bug I have ever had to battle was aphids. During the winter indoors you are supposed to mist everyday. I am not good about doing that.
Hey everyone! I have a red double hibiscus that was outside all summer...and it did bloom..intermittently....now that I have brought it inside...it is going crazy with blooms!! It lost most of it's leave...but getting new ones. The amount of blooms are unbelievable though! Do you suppose it was the change in temperatures that did it? It's still not very cold here...50's...60's.
Arlene, Do you keep yours under lights inside or are you blessed to have sunny windows? Mine are full of buds right now and I am waiting until the last minute to bring them inside. Except for the little ones that I can keep under grow lights, most of mine stop blooming once inside due to not enough light.

Please don't go to the hospital again, it is much easier to send for the hibiscus...........or trade.
