Look what Frances did!

Although we did not get the winds here in western NC, we got tons of rain in an already rainy area. But we got 14" of rain each night for 2 nights.
I got this morning glory tree from gone2seed. It kept growing taller and taller, nearly 10 feet tall! I think there was too much shade. But it did have buds and now it's laying on its side. What should I do with it? Should I cut it off?
I'm going to have to pot it anyway so I guess now is the time. Any suggestions or advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Pardon the vertical lines; I dropped my camera.

I got about 11 inches here north of Pickens. Washed some of my stuff downstream and I had to track down the creek to try to recover. I did get a few things back but I know some are gone. One of my butterfly bushes that I couldnt decide where to plant. guess I dont have to worry about that now - do I.

I would imagine you should carefully tie that thing up. Looks like another rain storm coming too !!

woodspirit, are you aware we now have a Weather Forum? You will find some photos of flooding from Frances in and around Asheville, H'vl and Brevard there. You and Charlotteda really got some rain! I think I only got around 10".

Woodspirit,

I would just stake it for now and give it some bone meal to help strengthen it back up.

Despite 90mph winds, the plants in my old garden fared very well. Some of the taller cannas got bent over, but with cannas, you can just chop off the stem, there's always a new one ready to replace it. The ginger plants really got bent of, but they are the common ones and I wasn't bringing them to my new garden anyway.

I hope for all of us that Ivan will settle down and the major storms are over for the year.

I certainly understand your concern about the plant, the weather and the amount of rainfall ... but, geez, what about your camera ?
Yeeeouch!

I dropped the silly thing onto the ceramic tile floor in a bathroom stall at Taco Bell. I had just taken a picture of a footbridge built by the Hampton Inn that goes over to a historic site. The photo was for a newsletter. I was transferring the camera from my pocket to my purse. Sometimes if I zoom in and out a couple of times, I can eliminate the lines temporarily.
But back to my question. what I want to know is: should this plant have been trimmed back to make it branch out in the first place? It got soooo tall and skinny.
