Edit limit

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

I think that I have some idea of why you limit edits now but can you explain the limits, please?

Is it per post, per thread or per member per day?

Thanks.

Per member, per day. I think the limit is 10.

Any chance that the 24 hour period could be on one set time zone?

Example- I edited some in Cactus & Succulents to add ids as they came in 8 times yesterday afternoon but could only add 2 this morning. Could they run from midnight to midnight in your time zone?

No, it goes by the system clock, which is in eastern time. So, for you, your clock is reset at 10:00pm each night. That can't be changed at all.

Dave, along this same line, and something I have addressed before...

When doing a Co-Op or food and/or plant swaps for a RU, a limit of 10 per day for the person in charge of the lists is very limiting. Is there a work-around?

How about I make it so that the limit doesn't apply in the co-op or roundup threads? Would that work?

Oh well- had to ask. Thanks anyways, Dave!

And the co-op managers will be thrilled!

Dave, THAT would be wonderful!

I don't think there's much opportunity to abuse the priveledge on those forums, and I'm sure all the Hosts will appreciate being able to edit more often.

Works for me Dave! ;) While I got your attention, what about a resend button for the co-op hosts to send out multiple emails to members who easily "misplace" the originals. ;(

Refresh my memory too...how many pictures can one post in the Photo Forum each day? Sometimes they get moved out of sight so fast I don't get to see them ,as people tend to post a lot of picutes at one time. I think 2 or 3 at the most per day should be enough for one person to post./ JMHO Jo

The limit has been lifted from the Co-op forum and the roundup forums. Also the test forum. All other forums continue with their limit.

I don't really understand what you mean. What exactly would this "resend" button do? You can indeed access your own sent-mail folder from your member page.

The system doesn't limit you, but your own sense of respect for the other participants should cause you to limit yourself. If you find that you own more than 5 of the threads on the photos forum front page, you've probably posted enough for that day.

The other "forum etiquette" pointer with images is to remember that you can upload as many images as you want - within a single thread that you began.

Starting a NEW THREAD for each new image can be a bit aggressive, especially since each thread will remain on the front page for a while. As Dave said, if you find you have more than one or two images on that front page, you've probably reached your quota for the day...time to sit back, relax and enjoy looking at (and commenting on) some of the images submitted by others ;o)

Yes, I know Dave. But, if we had a resend button by each email, we wouldn't have to cut and paste, and go backwards and forwards trying to do this. Just a thought.

Yeah.. I wonder about so many photos a few people post daily.

Bein's I am definitely a newbie here .. I want to seriously inquire - if the above referenced limits ...
ie: for 'photos /uploaded, posted', etc. .. is applicable to all of the DGer folks - or, are you guys speaking, about those things that are some concern amongst yourselves (of which may be 'co-op managers, hosts, etc.) -?-

Just want to make absolutely certain that I am not risking abusing any kind of priviledges ..
I sorta figger that I've jumped right over in the middle of something that should be of no concern to me .. however, I don't desire to take anything for granted - until I've asked, and got a reply !

So, please know .. that there's no feathers ruffled nor am I jumping to conclusions .- just, simply want to ask, to make absolutely sure about things .. I'll await a response ... Thanks folks! ..

magpye, the picture limit is more a forum etiquette thing than any hard-and-fast rule. Just as it's boorish to comandeer the conversation at a party, it's rude to "hog" a forum by creating a bunch of new threads in rapid-fire order.

Sometimes in their enthusiasm to share their pictures, people forget how to "play well with others" and inadvertantly dominate a board by creating a new thread for each picture they want to submit. How many is too many? Well, that's kind of subjective, but if you're paying attention in a real-life conversation, you know when it's time to shut up and let somebody else get a word in edgewise. Same goes for forums - there's no "body languge" to gauge people's reaction, but if in doubt, it's probably wise to come up for air and let somebody else have a turn...

Terry .. I truly appreciate your rapid response .. Thank you so much!!

An example; as to where I keep adding any pics and info, to the present threads of which I've started .. (about 'wildlife, birds & hummers, and a few others) .. is, by far better to continue doing it this way ... essentially? Especially when the subject material is within the same context ..

I understand .. and I am glad that I've asked.
Again, I appreciate your quick reply to my inquiry. - Mags

Mags...Yes...if you have a lot of photos on the same subject...by all means...post them in that thread you started...If you have noticed after a certain amount of photos are posted to the Photo Forum...they turn over to the next page...and risk not being seen...if some one posts 5 or 6 different threads and photos on the same day then that only leaves room for a few more photos to spread around with all the other subscribers.

That is why I asked for a daily limit on posting photots to the PHOTO Forum...I love to see everyones pictures, but seldom go to back pages to look at them. Jo
P.S. And you are WELCOME to make any comments you wish...within Dave's guidelines...LOL Jo
