Anyone collect old glassware? Fire King ect.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

On Labor Day we have a old fashion outside flea market that I love to vist. I collect antiques/Fenton/depression/swanky swigs ect. I was just wondering if anyone else did on Daves.
I found a few bargains today! Sure is better than the antique store prices.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

I just love flea markets. And I mean LOVE.

And although I do not collect depression glass, there are a few pieces knocking around the house that I love because of the color. Mostly green. My thing is Czech pottery & glass. I love orange.

Just curious- have you found buying better in general lately? It seems that the prices on ebay & in shops is dropping. Makes me happy as a buyer!

If you're ever in our area visiting the Holophane plant or the Heisey Glass Museum, look us up. :)

Edited to add that I'm not a dealer, nor am I a collector unless it's something really pretty which catches my eye. I don't even mind if it's a reproduction if I like it. Newark is home to the Heisey Glass Museum and the Holophane Plant. Holophane is primarily lighting company, but they have issued special pieces. Their factory is fascinating, I hear.

Collect "americanna' glassware. Started my collection with pieces from my grandma - always have my eye open for some, but man has the price gone thru the ceiling!!

Kylertown, PA(Zone 5b)

I collect Wade from England, but that's porcelain.

We have a huge flea market near us once a month from May to October, and we just went this past weekend. I always think as I walk past all the tables that I wish I knew more about glassware, decorative figurines, etc. You really have to be aware of what you are looking for in order to sift through all that junk!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I've got 3 sets of Depression Glass...collected 1 piece at a time. Most are fairly complete, except for the ultra rare pieces....like the green Adam butter dish that there are only 6 of. got most of the serving pieces for each set...along with the regular table plates in several sizes for each pattern.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Just edited my post above to add some links.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Looking through the junk is half the fun of flea markets. Ours has coon hounds to chicken. Socks/tshirts but then you may find someone with a great glass table. On holidays folks come in from other states. It like one big treasure hunt!
On Monday I bought serving pieces. Waffle, American Prescut, Sandwich.

crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm into any kind of glass beads. But especially vintage ones. And flea markets are a great source of old, cheap jewlery. Wish I lived closer to you all. I need a flea market fix!! ;0)

Mom and I went antiquing yesterday. I found that many booths had 10 to 20 percent sales going. I came home with a copy of Antique Road Show book and she bought two Fenton shoes and a vintage miniature hen on the nest for 5 bucks! This mall is across from the Corvette Museum above Bowling Green, KY it is worth a stop if anyone is traveling I-65. I was looking for swanky swigs and modertone.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

Ladies, up here, I collect Anchor Hocking's "Manhattan", Pretzel and Fostoria"...today we're off to a show, that is held here, three times a yr..I also collect Barkcloth! have fun! Elaine

Woodville, TX(Zone 8a)

I collect American Sweetheart pink depression glass. I also pick up the frosted pieces of depression glass (the ones with the handpainted flowers underneath). I used to collect the jadite but finally traded it all for other stuff. It has all gotten so hard to find at reasonable prices.
I also have old aladdin lamps.
Roselaine, what is "barkcloth"? Is that just a pattern name. Just haven't heard that before. Curious me! Jenny

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

My younger sis has a set of American Sweetheart...great pattern. I've got Pink Adam ,Green Adam and Pink Dogwood.

Also got a set of Fancy Colonial goblets and a few Heisey pieces. Got rid of most of the oddball stuff several years ago...just not enough room.

Woodville, TX(Zone 8a)

Room is a big problem when you collect. I haven't really added any pieces in 3 years because I don't have the display space.
Melody, I love the dogwood pattern, but rarely see pieces around here or even the little I travel.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I love the Dogwood pattern too. It must be getting scarce. I am planning on shopping in Cadiz sometime on Sat. when we drive down for the KYRU. I cannot pass up antique stores or botantical gardens!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

Barkcloth, Jenny is the rough, heavy duty cotton fabric, that drapes and curtains were made of in the 1930s-1940s. Highly collectable now..............supposedly were over hundreds of patterns made, back then. Instead of having regular window treatment, which I shun..............our big window, I have hung barkcloth panels(an assortment)..I'll take a photo! Elaine,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,there are many sites on the web also..

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I don't collect much besides books, but I read recently the Pryex stuff from the 40's-50's is becoming quite collectible. Who woudda thought that?

I have a few old pyrex (small) custard cups because I love their size for making flan... sure wish I hadn't lost my first ones somewhere in moving over the years. I can only do flan for 6 now.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I noticed that the mixing bowl set that I still use is in the antique stores. I really need to put it away I guess but it is my favorite. It is the green daisy pourable set.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Personally, I'd still use it, bluegrass. I still use my grandma's Jewel Tea pitcher... just carefully. To me, things in the china cabinet to merely look at are somewhat of a waste. Like good underwear in the drawers until we die, never used.

Woodville, TX(Zone 8a)

Darius, I'm with you. I love using my old stuff especially if it was my grandma's or great aunt's. I use all my old pyrex and mixing bowls.
Elaine, just goes to show you that we never know as much as we think we do. That is so interesting. Yes, post a picture pic please. (and I was thinking it was a new kind of glassware!)

Much of my glassware such as depression glass, I just use for special occasions though. It is just too much to keep in the kitchen and I'm so afraid it will get broken (and it won't be put in the dishwasher). My pyrex and fire king pieces are still usable and go in the dishwasher, no problem. Jenny

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I love eating ice cream from my old sherbert cups. I also just bought serving pieces for my daughter's wedding reception. In crystal. I think you should enjoy it, just carefully!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

these are barkcloth panels in my dining area! E.

You have to tell me about that chandelier, Roselaine!!!! And a close up pic, please!

Woodville, TX(Zone 8a)

Elaine they are beautiful pieces. Thanks so much for letting me know about this. Now I'll be looking for barkcloth. Jenny

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

Now, there is story to this chandelier! The beads are my MIL's, the bits of whimsy are from our kids and gifts from our grandbabies! The chandelier, (Art Nouveau), I found in a junk store oodles of yrs ago, and an electrician friend wired it all new............I have never seeen another one like it..Elaine, the collector!........forgot the tale of the spider web(Charlotte's Web)........my kids loved this story all thru childhood, and the red egg in the middle, represents our Russian, Ukrainian heritage!

I just love it! It is like a living scrap book. Really great idea.

Thanks for sharing it with us!

you're welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I collect Westmoreland royal blue frosted glass. Hard to find anymore. I collect hummingbird figurines and for my grandaughters-one angels and the other teddy bears.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I go to a lot of estate sales, garage, and moving sales and just pick up things that I think are a good buy. For instance a swirl jadite bowl I think is 8 or 9 inches across. Doesn't look like it was ever used.

Then I bought a whole box of the peach Fireking. Some in peretty bad shape for collectables, but others are pretty good. I buy cut/lead glass if I think it is a good buy. I have Currier & Ives dishes.

Old trunks, I bought a wardrobe trunk for $5 because they didn't have a key and it was locked. We got it open and it was lined with beautiful velvet. It had seamed black stockings, a small iron for cuffs & collars, and a foille purse. I always thought it had been owned by a dancehall girl.

One of these days I will probably have a garage sale of my own.

Jeanette
