My lilttle gardens are very sad, with only a few drying up clematis blooms left, no roses, a few scattered diascia, 2 kosmos blooms. Of course my delphinium didn't even grow, never mind bloom ...sigh. I'm waiting for my Joe Pye Weed to bloom out back; hopefully it'll happen before we go on holidays Sept 24th so I can post it. Can't remember if its Sept. or Oct that it blooms, but I'm sure it'll be early this year, with the promise of an early autumn. I always miss seeing something bloom for the first time when I go on holidays. A few years ago, my lithops bloomed, a huge brilliant yellow flower, while we were gone for 3 weeks. I came home to a dried up stalk of course. Fortunately, my plant waterer recognized its significance and took a picture for me!

aaahhh. That's always the way it is. "You should have been here last week". I can't tell you how many times I've said that to people.
Added to that, I have just told someone coming to visit that not everything will be blooming but I will have noisy carpenters and plants piled on top of each other. Sometimes you can't win.
Next year will be better.

You have many treasures Elaine and your Granddaughter is very lucky to have such a wonderful teacher!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

thankyou, and thankyou, again! Elaine

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Amanda is a sweet looking girl. Grandaughters are a treasure to teach. I feel like I have more time to give now to 'nurture' than when my own daughter was young.

I don't have any autumn crocus...but I really like the photo of yours.

Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Carol

Is the plant you call an autumn crocus a colchicum (sp??). If so what variety and how long have you had it?
