Heading to Ohio this weekend

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

My daughter and I will be heading to Fairborn OH this weekend with the dogs for lure coursing. It's been a while since we've travelled any distance. Can anyone tell me if there are any nurseries or garden centers in the area that we will need to fit into our schedule?? I know there are alot of Ohio folk on Dave's, is anyone familiar with the area? Fairborn is a bit NE of Dayton. Hate to miss out on any good sales!!! I've gotten lots of special plants that I've picked up on our travels with dogs!!
Any ideas??

Hi Deb! Dayton is about an hour north of me and I am not familiar with Fairborn. You might want to check with Morph though. I think Cox Arboretum is in Dayton but I cannot tell you a thing about nurseries. Sorry!

Thanks Michele,
Not sure how much time we'll have, and we'll have the dogs with, so that limits time we can be away from the car, though my daughter is usually content to sit in the car with her discman and listen to music while I shop for plants! You never know when you will stumble across a good sale, especially this time of year!!

Oooh, fun! It's supposed to be really cool this weekend, too - nice for the spectators and dogs alike. What days will you be there, Deb?

Hi Deb..maybe I can help with the garden centers. I usually manage to hit about all of them around here..lol! My very favorite is Meadowview Nursery...which is on St. Rt. #235...near New Carlisle, Ohio...which isn't all that far from Fairborn. I am NW of Dayton...but originally from Kettering...a suburb of Dayton. (South) There is also Spring Hill Nursery in Tipp City which is East of Fairborn. Another nice one.
Those are about the best ones that I know to tell you. I know there are many smaller ones around..but if you go to Meadowview and Spring Hill ..that will take most of a day...if you are like me!!!
Good luck...and have fun!!

Thanks Marcia, I will have to check those out.
Kim, we are leaving tonight, and need to be in Fairborn at 8:30 tomorrow. Will stay somewhere in the area, probably Dayton, and head home Sunday night. Coursing will take up most of the day on Sat and Sun, but I'm hoping for some time to check out nurseries, too!!

Where will the event take place, just in case we could come see your dogs run? That'd be a blast. Do they care if people bring their dogs? Sounds like a silly question, but you never know. ;)

It's at Twin Towers Park, in Fairborn. Here is a link to the trials, there are directions if you scroll down the page. Or e-mail me, I will have a few minutes to chedk e-mails before Ileave. You can bring dogs, in fact, if you hang around until the end on Saturday, you can run your dogs for I believe $2. Last year they had a fun run afterwards, where those running were actually scored like in the regular trial. I've seen many breeds and mixes run at these.
That would be great if you could make it. I'l love to see you guys again.

Oh, my - that sounds really fun! Howie's nibbling, but I'm not sure if I've got a bite yet.

How late do they generally go on Saturday? I see it's kind of open-ended, but what's your experience?

I would guess it should be winding up by 3 or 4. All the dogs run in preliminary runs, there is usually a break for lunch, and then they run again in the finals. After that, if there are any tie scores and for Best of Breed there are run offs, after that the Best in Field run. There is usually a break then, while ribbons and any prizes are handed out, then they will start the practice and fun runs. Roll call is at 8:30, both days, so we will be there from then until the end. Bring your girls and common over!!
