September?! I've still got things on my to-do list that were supposed to be done in May! Maybe winter will go as fast as summer!

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Not a chance! LOL

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

I know what you mean WW, I cannot believe it either. We are getting alot of leaf drop on our trees already, like they think it is Fall already! Still 100 degrees, do they know something we don't know? Probably! LOL
And the winter will NOT go as fast as summer. Summer only goes so fast cuz we are having fun playing in the dirt. In the winter there is nothing to do but dream and plan. :~)

Oak Grove, MN(Zone 4a)

I think I will hibernate this year!

We didn't even *have* a summer here and you don't want to know what my winter will be like! :b

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

We haven't had much summer weather eaither. All of August was mild and beautiful. I'm not complaining, but it is supposed to be our hottest month. It makes me wonder what Winter will be like. I am already getting the Autumn blues, thinking about the death of the garden for another season. I get cranky(crankier, some say) despite the beauty of our fall foliage and weather. I need a grenhouse , I think, so I can grow things all winter long. Lou

Who would have thunk it. It's been cold and dry all through the summer, and today, the first of September, it gets over 100 degrees here. Dry, brittle grass all over the place and fires starting everywhere. Most likely from broken pieces of glass laying around. At this point, I'm praying for snow, because at this point, that's the only thing that's going to put a halt to the fire season here.

We've enjoyed summer weeks on end with temps no higher than 80 many days...Unreal. I can't believe it's September, either. It's nearly time for the Kentucky Roundup!

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Last winter I demanded a recount of the days but it didn't help anything. So this year will just have to pass uncontested.

Actually I can be rather content and happy with what has been done so far this spring & summer. I still have a couple or 3 months to finish the mulching job I started 2 months ago. A little here, a little there, and someday it will all be spread.

I got a couple shrinking peony clumps moved to what is hopefully a better spot, got several inches of really good dirt spread on top of a patch of poor soil and have started replanting the area, sprayed and killed thousands of weeds and unwanted grasses and brought one ground level bed under pretty good control for the first time. We cut down and shredded most of an 80' tall silver Maple tree growing and falling apart just about 20' or so from the west side of our home. One son wants to have the large trunks and limbs made into lumber to go into a future home.

Gardenwise, the potatoes did pretty well, the onions barely grew past the set size I put out in the spring, the green beans have HUGE vines but almost no beans, the volunteer tomatos are doing well but the planted ones only poor to fair, squash bugs killed the zukes early on, the brussel sprouts were eaten by grasshoppers before I sprayed them and then they rotted in all the moisture. The rhubarb had good clumps and poor ones but they also had a lot of competion from the Giant Foxtail grass and other weeds.in one bed. The newly planted asparagus did poorly and will need many more plants put in the bed to have any harvest at all.

Blackberry crop almost wasn't and we have lost several plants but the grapes are doing ok. I have more red raspberry plants to get planted and need to get a large daylily removed to be able to do that. I planted boysenberries which seem to be doing ok under the volunteer tomatoes. Next year the boysenberries get the whole area to themselves.

We lost a lot of iris to excess moisture even in raised beds. I never did see any borers so I don't think they were the problem. Just a lot of mushy stinky rhizomes.I salvaged what I could and moved them out of those areas.

Sorry to have made such a long post.

Actually I enjoyed your post.

So did I but it made me tired! There is still much to do in my vegie garden and flower beds. The cold front comming down from Canada is not inspring my gardening efforts this morning, temp is 42 with a wind of about 10mph. Better than a hurricane comming at me tho!

Amen!

I've heard so many of you say, we haven't had a summer this year. I am so sorry for yall and I wish, I wish with all my heart I could have sent you some of our heat.... I can't wait until we moved back to Tennessee so we will have at least a little break in the season instead of summer to maybe a little spring like.
The leaves don't even change here they just fall of the trees and then grow back on again.......
I only lived in Tennessee 7 years and I feel like it was my home and like I said I can't wait to go back......
:o)

Here in North Texas was not cool! Merely cooler than the past 11 summers since we moved here. For me it was a very good summer. Your right about the leaves though. They seem to fall because of heat exhaustion rather than the change of season. I really miss those fall colors as well.
