Very interesting PDB discovery

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

I'm probably going to drive ya'll nuts, but I discovered something about the PDB that NOW makes sense. It is a little frustrating, but at least I understand what's going on now.

As I search to see if a plant is already in the Plants Database, I often cut and paste the genus and species from other websites. When I do so, more often than not, I am able to easily determine if a plant is already in the PDB or not.

Sometimes, though, I cut and paste the botanical name in the search block and the results show that the plant does not exist in the PDB. Of course, then, I input the required information and attempt to add it to the PDB. Oddly enough, when all the information is added in this way, the PDB really DOES have the information on this plant already entered.

This happens very rarely. Perhaps 4-5% of the time, I get a "false" note that there is not an exact match for the plant. What I have figured out, though, is that when this occurs, there is a space at the end of the species name which the PDB recognizes as a character, thus no "exact" match is found.

Whew! At least when I enter the information to add a plant to the PDB, it has a check and balance system to search and see if the plant is already there. That is what is keeping me from creating a second entry for the same plant.

Now, aren't ya'll just thrilled that I shared all of this information with you? :)

And some searches are case-sensitive to boot.
