Could this be re-worded in the Plants Database as it implies happiness with a plant?
Have you had success with this plant?
and what suggestions do you have for the wording? (We aren't always happy with the phrasing of things, either - but when we can't come up with a good alternative, what you see is what we settled on ;o)
LOL- I get your point of how difficult this one might be to phrase and it only occured to me as I was entering a tree in my garden that I depise.
Have you had experience with this plant in your area?
What's your experience with this plant?
Surely some wordwise person can help us out here!!
As a fellow Californian I suggest,
"Can you relate to this plant?"
;)
only if you put the word "like" in that last one - at least once. Can you - like - relate to this plant?
Dude?
How bout:
I Can SO Relate To This Plant!!!
Or in Civil Service speak
Do you or anyone in your household have this plant growing in either; your own garden or land that is not your garden but in the local area (of a radius of 2 miles from your home)? If so, please give us a full description of your experience of this plant; either on your owned or rented (delete as applicable) property in the box below. If you do not have experience of this plant in either your garden or the local area, please go to the next entry.
That is hilarious!!!
Terry -
"You know" making generalizations about -like- you know -like- how Californians -like- they phrase things -like- you know - that could be taken -like- the wrong way. -Like- you know - how would you -like - take it if I asked you if you make moonshine and have an old washing machine -like- on your front porch? Not all of us -like- (or even like) live in or come from the Valley. :-)
As far as "relating" to a plant......that would -like- work dude (dudette)!
Also if you are in a slow period with nothing -like- better to do...... :-)
How about something along the lines of "How would you rate this plant's performance in your zone/climate?" That of course might evolve into you having to come up with a 1-10 rating system and then having Dave implement it......
I'd -like- give most of my plants a 10 (otherwise they are probably already compost.)
(Please do read this with your tongue in your cheek and do not feel any obligation to spend the next several months coming up with a rating system that we can all -like- agree upon.)
Happenstance- I really like the quickrate idea but I wonder if it would keep contributors from then adding notes as well. As it stands it is a one click contribution.
Baa - you missed one... Must be filled out in triplicate!! lol
I meant the rating system to be in addition to the ability to add a comment.....
My rating for plant "A" would be an (8) - Good performer in Zone 10a, but sensitive to extreme temps in summer months above 105F.
And I really was joking about a rating system......I think Terry and the Elves have plenty to do just keeping up with all the work that's -like- on their plates as it is.
I knew you were kidding and that it was in addition to comments but I wanted to say that I liked the idea. ; )
All I can say is ROTFLMAO! You all are hilarious!
-Julie
How about "Do you cuss this plant often?"
Really, the sentence below is enough:
"Does this plant grow in your area?"
What a fun read so far! :)
On the serious side, I've been reluctant to add my zip code to any plant that was not well established in either my yard or a neighbor's (such as trees, shrubs, perennials). I'd dearly love for my now 2' tall rosemary and tarragon plants to be perennials, but will only know for sure next spring.
Is it useful to report that something grows well in my zone if it is only during the summertime?
Donna
Got a great chuckle reading this!
Me too.
I realize that this says that daisyavenue is posting here but this is Ulrich- I so swear!! You know he has been considering multiple identities? Well, he stole mine. Er, I mean he is me.
Anyways,
what about if the Regional box and the Have You had Success with this Plant box became merged and then you would just have Regional reports with the ZIP box at the end stating Add your region if this plant can be grown there. ? (or something similar)
This ends the post by ulrich and posts hereafter will return to the usual daisyavenue user. Beeeeep.
Not until you finish this thread which you foolishly started:
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/450622/ !
To what are you referring, Ulrich. Are you up to some mischief again?
; )
The green print in brackets is called a LINK. You click on it and you'll be beamed there instantly.
It may be explained further in the friendly F.A.Q. feature .
Enjoy.
Edited to add a link to it: http://davesgarden.com/faq/forums/#127

My apologies, Ulrich. I was just teasing and I hope that I didn't offend you. We just seem to be the two biggest contributors to ideas that regularly get forgotten.
But never ignored, LOL
No offense taken.
