Gardenia help

Alpharetta, GA

My Gardenia bushes have little white bugs flying around them - any ideas as to what they are? And how do I get rid of them? I have to go buy something to treat them tomorrow and wondered if anyone might shed some light on what I should be looking for. Thanks!

they are no doubt whiteflies. if they land on the bottom of the leaves then most definatly. i use insecticidail soap on mine. there are many things out there to use. hope this helps.

Thank you! I think they are landing on the bottom of the leaves - I will have to double check tomorrow. I will look into the insecticidail soap.

Yep, sounds like whiteflys to me too. A major pest in So Cal. I had them all over my citrus trees. A hard jet spray of water upwards helped. Neem oil helped, but soap worked the best. Try using Dawn dish washing detergent diluted for a spray. works for me. The tell tale sign of whitefly is a white powdery SPIRAL design on the underside of the leaves. They are sucking the juice out of the leaves and will become distorted and curled with prolonged exposure. I believe they also produce honeydew (not sure) which will attract the ants........nada

They are whiteflys and I treated with an insecticidail soap today. I noticed that some of the leaves are turning black too. I guess I will have to treat with something else for that. Aren't there any maintance free plants? LOL! Then what would I do with my time?! LOL!!

Gosh Erika, hope you don't have to whack your plants way back like I did. Thought John had the gardenias looking good? What would you do with your time? HA! you're always doing something. You could always take Snowball for a walk on her leash. LOL

Ha!HA! Mom. John did have them looking good, but all of a sudden the black is coming back and I want to catch it before it gets bad like last year. I don't think I will have to cut them back this time - that would make me cry!

I still need to get a picture of Snowball on her leash - too cute!
