Photo contest?

I've looked and looked and can't find any mention of the contest. I ran across a link to it in a thread on the brug forum so I know it exists...am I missing something?

Is it said anywhere so that people that don't know can figure it out? It would be fun to get new people involved in it, and if I didn't even know it had started then I'd say it's not been talked about enough.

It is rather buried. Could there be a mention of it in the top of the Photos forum?

The whole "Extras" is rather obscure. Maybe someone can come up with a better idea for it. I can't think of anything to improve it, though.

Ulrich, it isn't just a measure of intelligence, it is also a matter of what some could call disposition and gw is intelligent, helpful, sweet and a quality that I like called light while you are intelligent, helpful, sweet and just a tiny bit of an endearing quality that I like called curmudgeon.

Yah, ditto. There's so many good things in that menu, but the photo contest really ought to be highlighted more, IMHO, too.

darius- I agree about the extras- nice if it were an extra tab up top and the feature was better expanded. There is so much that could be done with that area. The recipe section alone is a cookbook unto itself.

I must add that you are the perfect culmination if that yin/yang, darius because you have on all of those attributes!! : ) I aspire to them all myself.

(There is a famous quote from one of the Trumans... Harry, I believe... that pokes fun at sentences that do not end in prepositions... but I cannot remember it at the moment.)

More educated than than to use a preposition at the end of a ramble, was I.

Sigh....prepositional endings are of course wrong. But how many of us consistently order our thoughts in such a way that no sentence ever ends in "to" or "from"?

Who among us can say we don't mentally re-interpret/rearrange someone's words when we hear someone utter a sentence such as "It is a luxury into which I am growing"? Our brain has to momentarily struggle to reshuffle it into the cogent thought "It is a luxury I'm growing into." (during which time we're not listening to whatever else the poor speaker is saying! ;o)

Let's face it, the English language has serious issues with its own syntax rules.

As to the issue of how to easily find the Photo Contest......perhaps an email to all members announcing it would do the trick; akin to the announcement of the new DG v2.0. Of course, any new members could be notified via the "canned" email message upon sign-up, It could make mention of it up to the date when the contest is closed for new entries then revert back to the standard email message.

It does get ridiculous....Bad English is something up with which we shall not put.

how do you vote for the photo contest

When the deadline's been reached, Dave sets it up so all photos may be viewed by the membership. In each category, there are thumbnails with buttons next to them. Members click the button next to their choices and submit them. It's pretty slick!

My English are terrible....and my writing's written rotten :-)

Y'know, if I posted here a remark like "thanks to the gods for people who like opera" no one would have given it a second thought except maybe to think I might an opera fan.

Why are people making such a big deal about grammar, whether it's good, bad or indifferent? Most of us speak to be understood, and all the rules we learned in school do not necessarily contribute to understanding.

I thought people were just poking fun, not seriously being grammar police.....good lord there must be some out theree that think me completely unedumacated....I type as I speak.
