Sorry this happened. What a mess! Hope they all come back and bloom well for you. Have about 6 weeks of good weather left yet.
Where do I start?????
Thinking about you! We had the same thing happened a little over a year ago - they call it Hurricane Elvis. Did LOTS of damage so I know what you're going through! Don't over do it cleaning up. And - I've learned in gardening - life finds a way!

I've been cleaning up this morning and have most of the clutter taken care of. The brugs in the main back yard and the other flowers will be okay. It is the 125 that are out in the veggie garden that got hit the worst, but they will survive, maybe a little shorter or with a lot less leaves, but nothing will die from this. I'll just do my usual cuttings for next year and be fine. I did notice that the trunks of the brugs are badly damaged from the hail. They look more polka dotted than anything. LOL! Taking a break for lunch and then I'll get back out there and finish doing what I can and not worry about the rest. Thanks so much.
Brugie, sorry you had such a mess.I hope all will be well in a short period of time.Your's looks something like mine except I have tree's on top of my brugs cinnabor
Welcome to Daves. I hope you still have enough of your brugs left for plants for next year. Shoot, down there, they are year round, aren't they. How long will it take you to get the trees and such cleaned up? I'll bet the people who have tree services are very busy now.
Brugie, I'm so sorry you have so much damage from the storm. Wish I was there to help you clean up the mess.
I wish you were here, but not for cleaning up the mess. We could party!! No gators up here. Hope you have a great time with Frannie and Lisa this weekend. Take pictures....
My thoughts are with you Brugie - I hope your Brugs snap back quickly -
Sounds like it was a fast moving storm - that's one advantage of living in a rock house - the big bad wolf (or mother nature) can huff and puff all it wants - it isn't going to blow my house down! LOL
Now..eathquakes, floods, tornados - still make me nervous!

Wow Shirley! What a mess.... Sending best wishes your way.
Oh my goodness, so sorry to hear about this.. Your outlook on everything will make it all fine.. take care. A
So sorry for you, just take your time cleaning up. Everything will be o.k.
Dixie
Shirley I bet it was overwhelming at first to see all the destruction of your beloved plants. As you've said, just take time to do what you can. These plants can be very forgiving, and as we've all seen, the members of DG's are here for you and the rest of us when we need them. Let me, us, know if there's anything you need replace in your brug collection. Remember to see the serenity in your garden, I bet it's there. I think there's some in everyone's garden, sometimes we just have to look harder to find it.
Take care of yourself

Shirley, so sorry how the havoc of Mother Nature did in ur garden. look at the brighter side, u do not have a lot to log indoors during the colder months. try not to work so hard. hoping for the best for u.
Thanks everyone. I didn't have a single plant meet its demise from the storm so I'll still have plenty to lug in for the winter. The mess is pretty well cleaned up. Have piles of stuff to move to the burn pile. The brugs in the garden are all twisted or laying on top of each other and if I try to move them, the roots will break, so I'm just going to leave them alone. I still have a couple of hours of cleaning broken leaves from plants and after that, they are on their own. I appreciate your offers and concerns, but we will be okay here. Thanks a bunch.
oh shirley that is horrible I am so so sorry.
Oh Shirley! God bless you! I don't know how I missed this post earlier -- but I'm so sorry that I didn't respond sooner! You are in my prayers!!! Gretchen
Shirley- With your attitude you are a winner in my book. I am sorry this happened. Rest in between cleaning up.
Wish I could be there
What a job. You have really had a bad weather year for your brugs, Shirley. Sure glad you didn't lose anything, but what a mess. Your attitude is simply amazing though. You always look on the bright side of everything. God bless you.
I can come down Saturday and help if you want it??? LMK
:-)
Wish I was close enough to come help. If you need anything that I've got, it's yours! I didn't see this until now, sounds like you've already got a lot of it cleaned up. It's sad to lose so much, when your bloom season is already so short.
Brugie I have not been on much, because I have been doing all of the finalization for the coop I have been having, and now I feel terrible, that I missed this!
I am so bummed for you!!
I know there is nothing I can do to fix it, but I hope you know "I would if I could"
Alice
Hi Brugie: I always fear storms and I'm glad that you can get restarted. I know that it was a set back but you are good and can get them going again. My pods are just starting to drop and I get so nervise when they call for storms here. I'm new so I hate to lose my first babies. Good luck on your come back!!! George
Thanks everyone. Everything will be okay. I'm just glad this didn't happen a month ago. I would really have been bummed then. Since there isn't much of summer left, it isn't a big deal, more shock than anything. I really appreciate all your offers and concern. No need to worry!! This has put me in the mood to start a lot of early clean up.
Thanks Kyle, but I'm pretty well cleaned up now. Maybe a few days of sunshine will help things look better.
Brugie and all:
Hi! I'm new here. Love brugs and hope to have one someday soon. So sorry for your mess. I lost my Echeveria "Lola" bloom and I was upset-then saw this. Somehow it put my silly one plant into perspective. Of course we really feel for those losing homes, cars, jobs, too.Still, I know how much attention you give your plants and now they'll REALLY get you're attention. Charley took my awning down (Echeveria underneath) and I complained so much my wonderful hubby fixed the awning, but it was too late for Lola. Oh, we do get attached. I visited that darn plant every day! If I could come to help, I would, and I'd make peach cobbler with you.Of course, I would be drueling (sp?) over all those brugs.
Jay
Hey Jay, just as long as you don't slobber (I can't spell the other word either) on the peach cobbler, I'd love to have you visit anytime. Seriously, if anyone is in Iowa or close by, give me a yell.
I'm sure glad you didn't have more serious damage. Lola can be replaced, I'm sure. Thanks for thinking of me....I was very lucky compared to many in Florida.
Shirley, so sorry to hear about all the damage you had. I went through that a couple years ago, and it just makes you sick to see your brugs. broken like that.
Patricia
Oh, my goodness, Shirley, that is just awful. I'm so glad you weren't injured. I had no idea there had been so many storms in your area. We have had storms too, but, thus far, no serious damage and I call it serious when a brug that big gets tossed over!! Whatever you lose, if I have the plant, I will root it for you! I hope that will be all of the storms for a long time, you all have surely had your share, plus!!!!!
Shirley
I have been thinking about you this afternoon - when I left to go back to work it was just getting black in the west - it kind of looked like it might go just north of my house - but I knew that that would mean you would get it. Am so sorry, just glad it wasn't as bad as last time. I'm afraid to go home and look. Did you lose many blooms or buds? Linda
Linda and Sherry, I lost a lot of blooms and buds, but only three broken branches and I stuck a couple of them in soil to root. Lots of leaves blown off again. Hey, the more that blow off, the less there is to blow off the next time. LOL! Hope your brugs are all okay Linda. I'm sitting out here with no protection from the winds. I wish the guy that owned the 40 acres behind us would plant it in fast growing pine trees. LOL! Thanks Sherry, It is pretty hard to lose a whole plant when they are as big as mine are. If the tops go, the bottoms will usually sprout a new plant. I'm fine. Thinking about moving away from Iowa though............soon!!
Shirley, now you know you can't do that after getting Phil & I so addicted!! We'll just have to build you a big dome over your whole yard!
Wouldn't it be great to have one of those domes? Man, I could grow brugs like crazy.
Wow, Shirley, you weather is getting as bad as ours had been earlier. It's getting really dry here but I've afraid to say anything, afraid the rains will return. LOL We need some rain but not a flood.
At least with less leaves, you have less for insects to get on. Hope your weather gets better.

Ada, this weather has been very unusual this year. Tomorrow we are to be in the low nineties for only the fourth day this summer. Saturday, the high is to be 71. We just seem to go from one extreme to the other. I've had enough rain for a while. Actually, I'm getting a little tired of mowing grass.
The rain really makes the grass and weeds grow so good. LOL
I am so so sorry Shirley!!
Oh Shirley, not again. I'm sorry.
Linda(other) - what a vision. A large glass dome over the house/yard. I want mine to have sliding panels so that rain (just enough) can come in. Screen in my openings please to keep out the BAD bugs and the squirels and rabbits (they have really been a pain this year). I'll have only NICE bugs and . . . . . wake up. LindaSC
Linda - and don't forget it would have to be near a bubbling brook from which to pump water to an automatic watering system. (Rabbits are now burying nuts in our pots - good thing we live in the country so Phil's beebee gun doesn't bother to many poeple!!)
I didn't know rabbits would bury nuts.....thought it was only squirrels. How the heck does a rabbit get in your pots? The only time they jump around here is when the air rifle kicks them in the rear. LOL!
Hey Linda A. ............ I was at the Lucas greenhouse a couple of days ago and they are selling the Pro Mix really cheap. I think even tho it is from last year's order, I'm going to pick up some more to have on hand for the winter. Is this the same stuff that Phil got a good deal on?
