Where do I start?????

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

We got hit by a storm tonight. High winds and hail. I have a lot of broken brug branches, seedlings snapped in half, one huge brug, Becca Lynn, snapped off at the ground, and so many little problems, I can't even begin to write about them. I'll post a couple of pictures. By the way, the only warning we had was that we were in a severe thunderstrorm watch area. If this was only a watch area, I'd hate to be in the warning area. I had already sat pots upright when I took the pictures. There were several big brugs laid over and actually, they had less damage than the ones left standing.

Becca Lynn is no more...............

The hail did a lot of damage. So, I guess you can see what I have to do tomorrow. Lots of cleanup.

Oh no Shirley, I am so sad for you! But I'm happy that you and your family are ok. Things could have been much worse. It looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you tomorrow. Take care of yourself and don't work too hard!

Whitewater, WI

I'm soooo sorry, Shirley :) Let us know if you need anything....

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Shirley, I am so sorry. The weather has been so strange lately. Are you going to try to root any of them (like Becca Lynn)?

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

I'm so sorry for you, Shirley. You worked so hard on your garden - it must be very frustrating to see all the damage. I wish I were closer so I could come help you clean up. I really hope things aren't as bad as they look and that everything will grow back quickly!

Adrian, MI(Zone 5b)

Oh Bruggie, I am so sorry you had this happen. I know how you have been waiting for blooms, being a z5 too. I wish I lived close to you I'd help with your clean-up! It's been a strange year, I don't think the weather reports have been much help to us gardeners! I'm glad you and your home are safe, the plants are JUST PLANTS! So I hear.
Bonnie

Eva just told me, Shirley I'm sorry to hear this happened. :(

Remember if there's anything at all we can do, please let us know.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

The pits! So sorry Brugie!

(((HUGS)))

It's just not fair. You work your butt off and then this happens. I wish I was closer, I'd help you clean up this mess.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks everyone. I think we have probably all been through something like this before. The mess will disappear in a couple of days and sunlight will bring a lot of things back up fairly straight. Maybe they will have been stressed enough that they will put on one heck of a flush of blooms before our frost. I will root a couple of cuttings of Becca Lynn. I wish I had time to mail stuff out to people, but with cleanup and a lot of company coming in another week, I just don't have time right now. I'll stick BL in a barrel of water and hope that she will hold long enough to share her later on. Thanks for being here for me. It sure helps to have gardening friends who know what it is like to have such a big disappointment. You are all the best!!

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Shirley,
So sorry you had so much damage done to your plants. Take your time with the clean up ................ don't over do.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow, Shirley. I'm so sorry. If there's anything you need that I have, just let me know. I wish I was close enough to come help you clean up and salvage what we could. I'm glad you and your family are okay. Gosh, all that work and waiting for blooms and to have this happen. Hang in there. Hopefully, there'll be better days.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, what a sight to see after a storm - Sorry about your plant damage.

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, Brugie, I'm so sorry. I wish we could all help you clean up. Hopefully the damage to Becca Lynn isn't permanent and I wish you tons of blooms on her (or your cuttings) next year. Glad you are safe.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Dang weather!!! So sorry Shirley ... big hug coming your way from Michigan!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hey, I would love to have your help. I make a mean potato salad and cherry and peach pies. Come on to Iowa. LOL! Actually, there is nothing to worry about. The brugs will recover and so will I. I remember when Ada and others had so much rain and how depressing it was for all of them to deal with, but all we have to do is hang in there and things will get better. At the time it just feels like it is only happening to us when in fact we have all dealt with gardening problems of some kind. I just happen to be the one that Mother Nature chose to irritate today.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Shirley, Mother nature is giving us all a run for our money this year. We had two storms last night but I didn't have the damage you have. I just have Brugs dying from being too wet. I can't put them all in the garage for the frogs to dig in. The frog problem seems to be getting better. Now I wonder what's happening to them. LOL Maybe I have more than two black snakes in my backyard. I sure haven't been finding as many frogs in my potted plants or as much soil dug all over the garage floor.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Hmmmm ... a mean potatoe salad ...... cherry pie ...... sounds so good!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Ada, if there were two black snakes in my back yard.....I would never be out there. I'd rather have the frogs and toads. You have been water logged way too long. I hope you have a fantastic fall. You deserve some nice weather for a change.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Shirley, the black snakes won't bother you. They keep the copperheads away. LOL I have to go out every once in awhile and move them away from my dogs so they'll quit having a fit over them. I take the shovel and carry them back towards my son's house and I've threatened him not to kill them. LOL

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

oh i am so sorry for your lose. how sad but things will get brighter. Hugs coming your way.

Whitewater, WI

Hey, Shirley... Are you clear of the storms for the night????

I know some are headed my way but hopefully they've passed you by....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

This is what the weather web site says: The severe weather is out for the time being. Thursday will be dry and cool again as the cold front moves to Missouri.
Ed Wilson Channel 13

This is probably why Root is getting ready for storms tonight.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Ah gee, sorry y'all, Mom can be too cruel with her jokes :(

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Brugie,
Sorry to hear about all that damage. Looks like mother nature isn't being kind to any of us this year.
Wish i lived closer to you...
jen

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Oh Shirley! I'm so sorry this happened to you. I've been in that situation and know how disheartening it can be. This time of the year we are just starting to see the results of our summer labors, and then whoosh! :(

I too, wish I lived close enough to come help,or was rich enough to be able to just hop on a plane and be there by morning bearing starbucks coffee, breakfast croissants and packing my rake and pruners.

Big hugs being cybersent to you!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Gosh Shirley! Im so sorry! Im sure the ones you lost cant be replaced by my little collection, but LMK also if there is anything you need.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Dang Shirley you have been having wind problems since spring. I'm so sorry

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Oh Shirley, I am so sorry. I know you want to cry and probably have.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Well,I hope today is better for you,I do not envy you all the clean up,say the word and I can be there this weekend. storms missed us last night,so I will be watering more.
Dont over do it today!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh NO Shirley! I'm so sorry that you were hit by the storm. My heart goes out to you I know how rotten this feels. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that most of your plants held onto their buds...

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Shirley, I am very very sorry! All those weeks, you've worked with so much love in your garden and cared for the brugs and all it needed now, were a few minutes, to devastate it.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks so much you guys. You don't know how much I appreciate your caring and concern. Like someone said....they are just flowers.....close to my heart, but flowers just the same. I'm not going outside for a while. I'll let the sun straighten things as much as it can and then it won't look so bad when I get out there. LOL! Again, thanks for being such great friends. You all helped me stay calm after this happened last night and yes, I did have a few tears, but mostly because I knew I had so much work to do to clean it all up.

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Brugie:

I admire you for remaining strong and positive throughout your very trying ordeal. You're my heroine!

XOXO

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Oh, Shirley, that is too bad; however, sometimes a good, 'natural' grooming pumps plants up and they grow even better. I surely hope that's true in your case!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5a)

Shirley - Am so sorry to see so much damage. We had the hard rain and wind but no hail in our part of town - actually we were out of town last night until after 11 and I haven't looked at our brugs on the lower level - now I need to go home and check. I do know the ones on the upper deck are fine. Please let Phil know when he comes by your house today if you need any help cleaning up - we can be out there tonight after work. Linda

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Mother Natures pruner is at work everwher this week, poor folks in Florida and now all across the states. Yall all watch out the stroms are brewing the weather is getting right to spawn some bad ones.
We are watching some coming our way..........
So sorry for you Shirley and hope you can get some help to clean up all the mess. So much work to do....
:o)
Dee

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Everything will be okay here. It is late in the season and in another month, the brugs would have been history anyway. I know what happened to me is nothing compared to the destruction in Florida and other parts of the country with tornadoes and heavy rains. It is just that at the time of the big event, one feels so helpless. It is so cool outside right now that I'm waiting to go out and do any work. Linda, thanks for the offer, but I'll get this taken care of. I'll pick up the big stuff and rake and mow. My seedling pots will have to be staked up somehow and after that....I'll just sit back and wait for the frost to hit. At least I don't have to water today. LOL! Thanks again to you all. Gardeners are a special bunch of people.
