!@#$% Slugs

Last night I was out battling slugs in my tomato garden. I stepped back (onto the hose I think) and fell backwards. I cracked my head open on the aluminum roof support - OUCH. Cracked open the ripe tomato I had picked also when it went flying onto the patio. Good thing I have a hard head. LOL

Ouch! That hurts just reading about it. My solution to slugs is straight household ammonia in a spray bottle. Kills them instantly and fertilizes your plants at the same time. I can understand your anger and frustration tho. Did you have to have stitches? Be sure to keep it clean and the hair out of it or an infection could quickly set in. Hydrogen Peroxide will keep it 'boiled out' pretty well and Betadine will keep it disinfected(so will clorox water diluted 9 parts water to 1 part clorox). CampoPhenque will both disinfect and kill pain. I pray you get rid of the slugs soon and heal quickly.

Ouch, elsie, is about all that I can add. Hope that you feel better

and kill those slugs!!!!!

Whew! Glad you are ok. Are you sure it was the hose and not a big slug fighting to get that mater back? They look like they are just gooey , plant eating blobs, but they have muscle too and may be sneaky in their attacks upon night hunting humans.

I tend to use a big sharp knife and cut them in half so that when their buddies come to munch on them (canabalistic critters that they are) I can get them too.

Be afraid... BE VERY AFRAID! But of the killer slugs... not sweet lil ol' me!

Not Gangstas nor Slugs shall Zany's path tread....

For She Shall Whip them with Kind Sillyness Instead.

A nasty old slug ( a truly horrid old bug) caused our friend Elsie to fall
So I'll stick with my knife, it may save my life, when those critters come to call!

LOL!!!!

Now what split in the head could beat this performance??

APPLAUSE!!!!!

(ROARRRRRR)

You guys are a riot! With all the rainy weather we've been having the slugs are in herds. I picked up some slug bait and I'm being very careful where I'm stepping. And I'm going to watch out for those sneaky slugs.

Hope your head is better! The best I've found is Sluggo. It is safe for animals and keeps working after a rain.

elsie, Try coffee grounds. Coffee is poisonous to snails and slugs but I hate wasting good coffee but the grounds work even better. Helps the soil too. I like the knife trick but a little salt from a shaker will make them bubble and boil for that instant gratification when you find your plants eaten to ground level.

Well my head is healing nicely. My Mother had a look at it - she said it's a 2-3 inch cut. It's feeling better too.

I got some slug bait and put it around my raised bed. I'm going to try the coffee grounds too, thanks Nadabigfarm.

...but all of this begs the question, elsie,..

How was the tomato?

It was delicious!
