THE ENRICHMENT OF LIFE -1

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

A few years back, I was visiting my old friend's house. His grandfather was living opposite our house and they had moved to another locality about a decade ago. His father was the one who had actually saved my life - the incident was discussed in a separate thread last year. There lay in one corner of his house a bundle of little booklets which his late g-father had got printed. He had taken trouble to print it from his own money. It is a free booklet. The title was "The enrichment of life". He asked me if I was interested in having the 50 odd copies since he did not need them. I just glanced through a few pages and thought in terms of its wisdom. I brought them home at a time when my mind had begun getting spiritually sensitive. I went through it leisurely and was stunned by the great depth of knowledge that had gone behind such a wonder compilation in just 43 paragraphs. The original compiler of that essay was one Chandrashekhara Aiyar, who was the retired chief judge in Mysore. He had first done it in 1948, but the wisdom contained in it is eternal. I just thought about sharing these paragraphs in parts. Here is the first. Hope people get to enjoy the essence of it, gardening or not and find it interesting too. Here we start:

1. LIFE A TRUST:
Life is by universal assent the most precious endowment of mankind, man's dearest possession on earth. The ultimate nature of life may be a mystery, of which little more is known than that it is some kind of purposive activity associated with organisms. But the process of living is to all creatures the most absorbing of all experiences. Life, says a Greek proverb, is a gift of nature, but to live beautifully is the gift of wisdom. Conscious, intelligent existence is a thing beyond price, entrusted to each person. It is something to be made the most of, and not squandered away without due return.

I like this one too 'Life is GOD's gift to us. What we do with our life is our gift to GOD'.

That is some very deep philosophical writing Dinu. I hope you will post more for our perusal.

I plan to post the 43 paras, one each day. Yes, Zany, I liked it very much too - every sentence is worth its weight in gold. Have already posted the second one. Glad you enjoyed the first one.

Your journal would be a great place to keep these -- You could have a category with the title, and each installment could be an entry within it. It would be neat to have them all in one place, yes?

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

That's a good suggestion, Kimberley. Never thought about it. What I had in mind is that interested people, after reading these, would discuss and exchange their views, for the betterment of their knowledge.

I have never used the Journal part. I will try it out right now.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

You could still have a thread with links posted to your journal entries as you unveiled them, and comments could be in the thread and any continuations of it. The entries, though, would all be in one spot so we could refer to them easily. I think the journal would be just the ticket for something like that! :)

I have just given the title in my journal. I'm stuck. How go proceed?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

There's a new FAQ now: http://davesgarden.com/faq/journal/ Does this help? I'm heading to bed soon, but if you have any questions, I bet someone will jump on in and help.

Good night Kim, will stay afloat. It is quarter past noon here and so I have some time to work that out. Hope something happens by 'morrow.

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

It's been a long time since I posted this thread.

Now I have created a blog here: http://enrichmentlife.blogspot.com/ There are 43 points of general interest and wisdom. Hope people will make use of this and enhance knowledge.

Oh, good, Dinu! One caveat: The pink text is difficult to read on the light background.

I used the monitor in our centre that had lost 'sense' of colour. Did it just this afternoon. Thanks for the tip off GW. I did not know which colour I was choosing there! That was the one PC available when I went. So I had no choice. Now I did change just now. Have a look.

Much better! Blue seems more your color. :)

Thank you for posting such wonderful reading..will continue to watch for future posts...

You might think about putting each of those points into a separate blog entry. That will make them appear in smaller bits and perhaps be easier to digest. Also, if you separate your interests in your profile by commas, they will become clickable links; you can find other people with similar interests that way, and they you.

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

GW,
Do you mean those points have to be divided into 'new posts' in the same blog, 43 posts in one blog? Used commas there now. Thanks. You are very right, blue is THE colour I ought to have chosen, but this one is just for a change!

The rationale behind having them in separate posts is this: Each post will have its title present in the permalink (individual post's unique URL). Notice how the entry has the title in it: http://enrichmentlife.blogspot.com/2007/08/enrichment-of-life.html That will bring more visitors to your site. You can set Blogger to show your posts in ascending order, so they will be seen in the order in which intended. Also, people can then comment on each idea, making a conversation about that point flow; with all the information in one big post, it might be overwhelming to some, and comments will be about the article as a whole instead of individual points. But, really, it's up to you how to present it -- go with your gut feeling.

I thought about it and it is a good suggestion. I'll introduce with my first post about it and then post the points in separate posts with the titles in those points. Yes, it is too long to read. Thanks for the same. Will work on it very soon.

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

I've done it, retaining the full set in the post. Let me know how it is now.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

With the postings separated it is much easier to view your blog and absorb it in small bits that the mind can absorb and focus on. Each segment now stands apart to be fully digested as a morsel to be savored.

Thanks Zany.
