Terminology

The Identification Forum has 'unsolved' and 'solved' threads. Since they do not become inaccessible after being solved, the nomers 'open' and 'closed' really do not apply.

Drats, there are always some sticklers making a nuisance of themselves.

LOL Ulrich

I agree, if it could go back to the wording that was it would be good :)

Does this need fixing?

I'm confused (not an uncommon occurrence :-) ... just from looking at the ID forum, it appears that posts are still being marked as "Solved" not "closed". I do wish more people would follow up and mark their threads as "solved" when they get an ID.

Follow the red arrow.
Also in the Thread Watcher it says 'Closed"

It says "Open/Unsolved", which covers both words.

From the top:

And what would you suggest in lieu of open/closed or solved/unsolved?

The reason for this conundrum is that the same tool is used in the ID forum (solved/unsolved) and the co-op forum (open/closed). If there is a pair of antonyms that would cover both needs, I suspect Dave would be pleased to use them ;o)

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Solved as compared to unsolved, THAT'S IT !!!
There is no OPEN mentioned, so where in the world does CLOSED come in???

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

But a co-op is neither solved nor unsolved. It is either open or closed. The terms need to cover both circumstances.

How about complete for a closure that would just about cover both forums (or should it be fora)

After this problem is solved, and not before, can we concentrate on lesser things like the war in Iraq, the coming elections and world hunger again.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Sure! Just not here in the garden ;o)

Actually this thread is kind of fun for me. It allows me to share a glimpse of the administrative world with all of you. You already know how easy it is to read something and know the phrasing is "off" - and now you get to see how difficult it is to come up with new words/phrasing that makes immediate sense to the majority of our readers.

Terry, I apologize for letting that Co-Op matter slip by me. If Dave can't separate the two forumses (yes, I know), then kennedy's suggestion sounds quite attractive. Or leaving well-enough alone could work, too, if necessary.
