DG Member Stores

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I'm just curious how people fare with Member Stores.
Do you have one?
How are your sales?
Did you close one, and if so, why?
If you have no store, have you looked at them?
Have you ever purchased from one?
More than one?
Other comments?

Thanks.

What do you mean a "Member Store"?

Same question?

Dave set up and area where members can have their own retail website, you can find the stores on the Home Page under Extras, here's the link http://www.scifstore.com/showcase.php

Darius

I have a store but I'd be more comfortable answering the store holder questions over on the scifstore forum :)

As a general browser I sometimes pop in and have a look at other member stores but haven't ordered as I can't see if anyone is willing to post internationally (with all the stuff that kind of s&h entails)

Baa. I didn't realize there was a scifstore forum, nor did I see it listed anywhere just now when I checked.

If nothing else, this thread may make more new members aware they exist.

Thanks Darius, I did not know. Although I think I've heard that Shoe has a store..???

It's in your personal menu on the right hand side.

Baa, I don't have a personal menu on the right hand side (this is all changed since Dave did the new pages)....but I did find the SCIF Store under "Extras" and then click on DG Member Stores.......which is what Darius was talking about in the first place, there appears to be a whole list of stores and I'm going back to check them out........Thanks for bringing this to our attention Darius!!! :) Kathy

Yes I meant the scifstore forum is on the scifstore front page (for owners of stores)

So, if you own a store, you see something different from those of us that don't own a store?

i'm not sure because I've had a store for about a year now and can't remember what it looked like before. Here's a screenshot of what I see when I go in there

That's what I see, as well. Love your icons :)

Baa, I hadn't been to my store as 'store owner' for several months. Completely forgot about that menu. Thanks!

Kathy, store owners see management tools for their stores so they can make changes, add new items, etc.

I am looking for some dried hydrangeas from the south and therefore green in color. Does anyone know of anyone in the garden selling these?

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

darius: I have a scifstore here at Daves, have had it awhile since February I think, during peak season (spring) I did well, but I sell extra garden seeds as well as trade them off. I did well in the spring. summer months, a few sales, and just getting things ready that are setting seed for the fall trade, will post later to this thread if it is still active to let you know how fall does for me. I enjoy it.

I have also purchased from some, had lots of good results from the seeds and was very impressed with that seller.
Hope this helps a little

darius, i'm in the process of setting up a store - just for my favorite products. i haven't quite figured out how to give DG subscriber's discounts yet. don't know if it makes any sense to have another 'store' [it's my 3rd b/c i also have one on ebay] but since i LOVE DG, i figure the 10% charge is just another way i can give back a little of what i've received. but no one's bought anything and only 1 person's 'signed up'

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

hhelpers...with the Sciff stores you have the ability to have a "newsletter". If you encourage your customers to join/sign up then you can send out "specials" AND if you make a note that DG Folks get a discount then state that in your newsletter.

I wasn't aware you had a Scif store. You could also provide a link to it from your ebay store maybe, eh?

So like - I'm thinkin here - I'm wanting to start doing stained glass items based on photos people have taken - especially pets and landscapes. Someone would summit their photo to me for a quote on the job and then I'd do it in glass should they decide they want it. If I've never sold anything as a "store owner" before - would this be a good place for me to start? Also - is there anywhere to find out about tax laws and all that? I've looked on the web to try to find out what I'd have to do if I gave to consignment shops - but can't find anything about licenses for people other than LLC's or larger - small companies.

Suggestions appreciated!

Marcia, as most artists and craftspeople know, consignment takes a LARGE chunk of the sale, and many won't let you have things in shops they consider 'competing' even if 200 miles away.

I think a Member Store would be a good way to start, and I wouldn't worry about Tax Laws until you start to get some sales. Keep records, though.

You cannot advertise anything on DG so you will have to find ways to let people know what you offer. You can say (initially, or in passing) that you have a new store, I think. You may have to run that by Dave.

How Dave sets up the Stores to run, though, is nice, and set-up is easy. Plus you pay nothing unless you sell something.

mbock....the link given above by Baa lists the member stores.

This link http://www.scifstore.com/module/pages/v/38/ gives the Info Page on what is a Scif store, how they work, and much more. Even has a demonstration store set up.

(No info there on taxes...that will be up to you, or others, to discover.)

what i find extremely interesting is that some searches on the gloves totally ignore my 'real' store and list the scif store instead.....
