PDB Search revisited

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

I looked up 'Black Ash' and got 399 returns, probably including washingtonias. Could that not be limited to just the specific item?
I think this has been answered in the past, but I was asleep that day.

When that happens, it usually means the plant you are searching for isn't in the PDB, or at least not under that name.

In the example you gave, Fraxinus nigra isn't yet in the PDB: http://davesgarden.com/pdb/b/Oleaceae/Fraxinus/

In contrast, a search for White Ash yielded one result: http://davesgarden.com/pdb/search.php?search_text=White+ash

Thanks, Terry; that's interesting. I can live with that but think that the old "No results found!" would be handier in such a case.

What would be nicer still is a message to the effect "No exact match found; did you mean...?" with the "close-but-no-cigar" entries listed beneath.

That would do it.

davea, huh? grin...

Actually, this is a great improvement - thanks!

Using Ulrich's original search:

black ash: http://davesgarden.com/pdb/search.php?search_text=Black+ash&Search=Search

or

Fraxinus nigra: http://davesgarden.com/pdb/search.php?search_text=fraxinus+nigra&Search=Search

The part I couldn't resist was that I used the phrase: "Close but no saguaro" and then linked to the Carnegiea genus.. heheheh. Gardening humour. :)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm still groaning at the bad pun ;o)
