Boy, I left to make a garbage dump run and all H*** breaks loose. I can't believe Charlie went from a Cat2 to Cat4 so quickly, and not too far away from a Cat5, Catastrophic.

My mom, sister, and her family are in Winterhaven. Niece and her family in Jupiter. I talked to them this morning. My sister lost everything in Hurricane Andrew. She lived in Homestead at the time. Keeping ALL of you in my prayers. Please stay safe.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

good luck my friends my you be safe from alll harm!!

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

There is *nothing* going on here. A few sprinkles here and there, a little bit of wind, .. but other than that, nothing. For which I'm grateful. They say around 5pmish to expect something of some sort, but it's pretty far south of us now. It took on a completely different path!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

On a lighter note.......Hurricane Charley is affecting life @ my house. My DH's employer is located in St. Petersburg, Florida. DH doesn't have much to do today....his Head Office has been evacuated. I'm off to work again but thought this was kinda funny! Soooo....I think I have one or two plants from Florida that will keep him busy watering for awhile.

Will be thinking of you all today.....and peeking at this thread when I can. Keep safe and dry and thank you for the pics Floridian.

"They" say we're still going to get it...it seems Charley is moving NNW now instead of NNE which means it may run up the coast.
At TIA the weather report says light rain, no gusts, I wonder what it will say at 5p?
Forecast says strong thunderstorms, winds of up to 100mph, rain local to 8"

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Im keeping an eye on you guys, getting nervous for you if your not, LOL.

Crossville, TN

Thanks for the info, Kikisdad (on the other thread).

I called my sis inlaw in Ozello....6 miles, and the only road out, off RT 19...and right on the water of St. Matin's River.....they were just about ready to leave. They had mandatory evacuation by noon today. They were headed towards Leesburg.

David, you're lucky to live on the East side of RT 19. I'll bet you have a lot more traffic the 2 routs than can be accomodated.

Good luck to all of you. BE SAFE!! Jo

Mooresville, NC(Zone 7a)

Fingers crossed for you guys!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Floridian, I just looked at the latest track and it sure looks like anything might happen as far as direction. Your post of what "They" say... could be right.

Now I have MORE of y'all to worry about!

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

Wow, my old classmate and recently rediscovered friend, Randy White just posted last night that he was staying in his house on Pine Island to see what a category 3-4 hurricane was like. He is an adventure writer so this is totally in character, but man I'm getting some major anxiety about now. "Hurricane Charley is expected to pound through Sanibel and Pine Island with life-threatening winds of 145 close to the eye, Lee County Public Safety Director John Wilson reported at 1:50 p.m."

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

We have a bit of light wind but no gusts yet. It's starting to rain. I took a few before pics and I hope I can get some during the storm. Forecast says 2-4 hours of hurricane force winds, 7-10 tropical storm force. I really feel for the folks in the direct path
Vic, I hope you can keep in touch with your family. Polk County is getting some good storms right now.
Storm is heading NNE

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Are you still online BuriedTreasures and Pati?

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Finally found my cousins that live in Fort Myers. They're in Hendersonville, NC at a family reunion. In fact his brother that lives at Nags Head, NC is there also...how's that for timing! LOL

My daughter (Red Cross) just called and they are opening 5 shelters in Martin County (Stuart) and they have already opened shelters here in St Lucie County (Ft Pierce). There is a large trailer population in both counties. Sooooo...she wan't be coming home tonight. We had planned to be at my house and watch the opening of the Olympic Games. Yeah right! LOL We were going to have Pizza sent in and for desert French Vanilla ice cream topped with Baily's Irish Cream. Now, since we may loose electricity, I guess I'll have to eat it ALL myself so it won't melt!

Heads up folks, it's turned a little more north. It just brushed by Port Charlotte. Scarlete you may be looking at more than a few sprinkles!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Just catching up -- praying for the safety of you all.

Just talked to my sister. She tells me that Charley is now supposed to hit in the Sanibel Island area which is good for the Tampa folks but said it's supposed to hit Polk County (where she lives) around 8:00 this evening at a Category 2, possibly 3. They are as ready as you can be for these ferocious storms. Prayers to all of you.

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

VIC and all. Just talked to daughter in Bartow, Polk County. They were given one hour to evcuate, storm eyewall will come right over her house. She is going to Lakeland to stay with her niece, my grand daughter. Taking 2 children, three dogs, one cat and leaving behind three horses, 24 chickens, eight roosters and 5 new Lychee trees. This is the daughter that lived in Homestead during hurricane Andrew and lost her house, Moving to the country in Bartow was a dream she worked so hard for. Her comment, which broke my heart, was "The last time I left before a storm, when I came back everything was gone"
Prayers, please.

Oh, Pati, that feels so sad. I pray that she will be okay and that her home and animals stay intact and in the same place.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, Pati. :( I pray the damage is not too bad and that her remaining livestock fares well.

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

Pati,
What a thing to be forced to do! I am hoping that all the animals and her house, fare well. Let us know what happens, please. The most important thing, is for her, and her family, to be safe..

Pati, I can't believe the parallels here. My sister lost everything in Andrew too and when she moved to Winterhaven, thought she would be safe. My 85 year old mother also lives with her. I'm going to call & check. Maybe they are one their way up here now.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

They have just called out the National Guard in Tampa.

Crossville, TN

OH Dear...I have many friends in Lakeland....I used to manage a 186 unilt Mobile Home Park for Seniors......I'm glad the Snow Birds haven't come down yet...the year rounders can all fit in the nice big recreation hall. I know when I was there we were in the process of working with the City Storm teams to get it into hurricain shape. I hope that was carried through after I left. Love & Prayers to ALL. Jo

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Just checking back in to see how everyone is doing.....

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Oh Pati....I'm praying that her home and livestock will survive!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

What's it like where you are weeds?

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks all for your concern

VIC, let me know how it's going with your family.
Pati

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Great day, sun is shining.... I doubt if we will get anything from this one.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Has anyone heard from BuriedTreasures?

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Yes, Vic, PLEASE post back here.

If these storms aren't enough, to add insult to injury there seem to be 2 more tropical storms brewing, one in the Antilles, and one way over by Africa.

Valrico, FL(Zone 9b)

Doing fine. Just some rain hear. We may be going back home in an hour or 2.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Are you still in your office?

Valrico, FL(Zone 9b)

Yeah, but we're loading up now. Should be home in about an hour.

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

Looks like we esaped the brunt of this thing here in Spring Hill. Too bad for the folks in Port Charlotte and the middle of the state though. Our thoughts are with those who are still in the path of this scary storm...be safe!

Scarlete, love your map. Now I know where the Dg'ers are in Florida. We should be heading back to upstate NY before the next storm gets here lol.
