FL DG'ers - Hurricane Charley
Previous thread: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/449699/
Just so everyone is up to par. :D
Should I post the map things, Darius?
Yes, I think you should. All of them.
If Charley comes in around Ft Myers, I have an aunt and cousins there. My cousin Billy is a Fire/Rescue Batallion Commander so I know he'll be busy.
Onalee is in Brooksville, Tami McNally in Sarasota, Irish in Gulfport, Tampasal, Arlene in Gainesville, DaleP6 in Sarasota, Mandy in Ocala, Delisa in Wildwood and of course all of friends in north Fl and the panhandle.
We now have total cloud cover but the air is fairly still. We still have the occasional bird but my friend in Clearwater (to the SW) says she's not seeing any of her many birds. She did not evacuate and I'm going to be worried sick about her during the height of the storm. Please say a special little prayer for them. Her house went through the 1921 hurricane and she is well above sea level...
Tornado warnings in Hardee & Highlands County...special alert
Hardee/Highlands area where Buried Treasure is...
and you can zoom into places from here..

map two
Thanks for the additional names, Stacey. Prayers for everyone. Looks like Charley is strengthening.
I thought BuriedTreasure was in Sebring..
Some of the others have surely been evacuated, Irish is in a little area almost surrounded by water...Thinking about you all...
Both Sebring and Bartow (I think) are in the tornado warning area
I heard 2 tornadoes on the ground, 1 near Clewiston.
BT moved just a month ago....not sure but I think it's Valrico?
Thanks for the map Scarlete...just one thing...crimsontsavo and I are in weeds's direction not where you put me. Just tried to call tsavo's Mum,but got no answer.
Ya'll in south Fl. be safe...you're in my thoughts and prayers. ((HUGS))
1.6 million people have evacuated and the Highway Patrol is advising to stay off I-75 and I-10 and that they might even close those roads.
WHERE did/will all those people go? Be stuck in their cars in a hurricane?
That looked pretty scary this morning Darius seeing lanes upon lanes filled with cars....I hope they got somewhere!?!
That happened here when Opal hit and most people decided if they didn't go ahead and leave really early they would just stay home, better than being stuck on the road for days in a traffic jam.
I thought they went to Bartow but maybe it's Brandon...
fl2325 lives in St Petersburg, I posted this site so maybe they will find it.
Mercy...this is quite a biggy coming up. My brother is in Sarasota and said he was going to have to board or tape up his big picture window today, for safetys sake.
So many folks evacutating...do they all go to Georgia or something?
We've had bad weather here in NC due to tornadoes that stemmed from the Bonnie weather system. Our area was not hit but feel sad for those people who lost their homes and family members. Hope tornadoes don't compound problems in Fla.
All ya'll Florida folks take good care, make wise decisions.
I just looked at the map and if they're advising to stay off I-75, just what road are the million and a half supposed to use? I'm with you Darius, are they all just stuck in their cars in limbo with the rain and wind assaulting them?
Oh wow, tornado near Sebring.
We haven't heard any reports of problems on the interstates or any other roads. They have closed some west bound roads into evacuated areas. They will notify us when the bridges have to close. Once that happens anyone on the islands are stuck there to ride it out
ETS maybe there are problems in the tornadic areas

I just heard a good description of what we can expect...
First we'll get bands of squalls, the bands will come closer and closer together til they blend. That's when you'll know you are in the hurricane.
The hurricane is turning towards the coast...toward Ft Myers or Sarasota County
Latest projection is landfall near Ft Myers, since Charley has taken a slight turn east.
Brugmania & Morganmom, are in Ft Myers, and TamsTrees in LaBelle.
plumbago and classicbill are in Naples.

Charley has been upgraded to a Cat3 and winds of 125 MPH
Here comes the rain.. says it may head toward Sarasota instead of us..
Cat 4 Hurricane! Wow 145 mph sustained
Well we're now hunkered down at the office to ride this thing out. With the recent turn, I don't think anyone has a clue where this thing will go.
I'll stay on as long as possible.
Chris
Batton down all the hatches and good luck to each of you. I have a close friend in Cape Coral and he says he is as ready as he can get. Hope to hear from everyone as soon after the worst is past so we know everyone is okay. We'll be thinking and praying for you.
Fasten your seatbelts! We are waiting and watching with ya'll.
Take care....we are looking forward to seeing all of you posting when it's over!! You're all in my prayers!
You just can't outguess these storms! It has taken a more easterly turn, now they are projecting landfall between Sanibel and Ft Myers in the next two hours and expecting it to be a Cat 4! The east coast could be in the line of fire. All the hotels, motels, etc., are full of people from the west coast, not a room left to be had. My Red Cross employee daughter was just at one of the big resort hotels at Stuart where they were setting up for a large fund raising banquet she had schedule for Monday. They have taken the banquet hall over to feed the people because the resturant can't feed them all. The hotel is on Hutchinson Island, which is a barrier island and will be evacuated if the storm comes across the state. Where will they all go???? Somebody said as a joke there wasn't a vacant room from Miami to the GA line. They might not be far wrong.
I have a NOAA alert radio set for any warning within 50 miles. Best 49.95 I ever spent at Radio Shack. It just went off...tornado warning for my county, St Lucie.
Heads up people, I'm sooooo glad you're here. The Doxies,TomKitty and I would be all alone if wasn't for you DG friends.
Pati
I may be way out here in the desert but I'm holding my breath for all you guys. Pati, tornados are nasty buggers. You got a 'safe' room? I'm a Mom and a Capricorn, worrying just comes natural. Blooms
Pati, hope your electricity stays so you can be online.....
I am so worried about ya'll this thing is a monster. Praying for my Fl. buddies.
Blooms, that's funny *grin*. I'm a Virgo, so as I try to get my containers all lined up against the house they have to be EXACTLY even, and the colors have to match. LOL I guess at this point it's time to chant my favorite rhyme:
When in trouble,
When in doubt,
Run in circles,
Scream and shout!!!
LOLOL
Pati
Floridian, tie that spensive camera to your body!
