Zone question for Dave or Terry

Melvindale, MI(Zone 5a)

I happened to notice that DaylilySLP who lives less than l0 miles from me, is listed as zone 6 and I am listed as zone 5. We both live in suburbs of Detroit. Any reason for this? I am curious. Thanks, Cynthia (Hemlady)

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

cynthia i know on some maps i am a 6 and some im a 5 so now i just put 5/6
feels like 4 to me most of the time!

Its suppose to be becuz im closer to lake huron!
sometimes it warmer here than 10 miles further west of me away from the water-they get frost and we dont!

sometimes its darn cold when the wind comes in off the lake too!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Since users are responsible for setting their own zone designation, it could be that you used different zone maps (a new one came out recently, but hasn't been widely adopted yet), or maybe one of you is more conservative and the other more optimistic in your respective choices ;o)

Melvindale, MI(Zone 5a)

Thanks for both of your answers. I myself would prefer to be a little conservative and be in zone 5. When I purchase flowers that helps me decide whether or not they will make it in this area. And I know what you mean notmartha. Michigan weather is so unpredictable. We have had a very cool summer here in the Detroit area. I think we only had one day that reached over 90 this summer.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

yes and i think that day was still in the SPRING! ;)
