Sorry- really don't mean to bog ya down..
I was looking for Big Red's zucchini relish recipe (and I knew that was the title of his thread) so I entered 'zucchini relish' and it didn't come up.
Is the search feature not searching thread titles?
(I ended up having to find him on a thread and look at the threads he has started- kinda long to do)
Another search problem
Actually, I think the search engine only searches the posts – not the titles. (Dave, correct me if I’m wrong). I believe it has always been that way.

I was going to post almost the same question after trying to find an old thread tonight. Having tick-off choices like "(1) Search subject (2) Search body or (3) Search both" would be helpful...Or just including the subject lines by default.
Wouldn't it make sense to search the subject lines as the subjects we tend to search would be, in theory, in the subject lines?
Well....sometimes people put some wacky things in their Subject lines! LOL! Plus if there is any mis-spelling users cannot edit their Subject lines but they can edit their post.
(I agree though a subject AND text search would be great)
[Dave - I'm getting this feeling I'm over-doing the "I like searches" thing, but I really do like them and if DG is going to be part-community and part-informational resource then I think Searches should be handy and easy to use.]
But, langbr, I wouldn't search a wacky thing unless I knew that the subject line I was looking for was wacky!!!! LOL
Try a search for zucchini.
Then try zuchinni.
Does that help you find the post you were looking for? No way! Unless you have loads and loads of time.

Not all the time. If it is a help menu, then the subject we search should be in the subject lines. In a discussion forum like DG, we could start a subject and trail off to talk about another slightly related subject. I got so much valuable information from discussion like that. While search on subject line is a good idea in some situation, search in the post is a better solution in most situation.
I could understand your frustration in this recipe search situation. But if you look at some of the good recipe database, you could search not only by name but also by ingredient, by type (appetizer, main dish, etc). In this gardening forum, data is stored and sorted differently from a recipe database. Everything is mostly in text format. An option to search by subject line might help in this particular situation, but with so many recipes stored in text field, searching through it would still be more complicated then, said, searching a method to get rid of garden pests.

I have had the same problems with researching how to get rid of garden pests, drop. This is indeed not a recipe site- I was using that as an example of something I have experienced in my searches for all gardening issues.
If someone has a question about 'garden pests' or 'zuchinnini relish' in the future, they will have this thread in their results. If they needed helped searching the site, they will almost certainly never find this thread because they cannot search the subject lines.
