DG ruler for PDB & photos?

Tygh Valley, OR(Zone 6a)

Howdy! =)

I was thinking how to help show the size of veggies, flowers etc. in my photos I post & the PDB?

I was playing around & thought of a Dave'sGarden Ruler that people could print, cut out & use in their pics for size comparison.

Whatcha think?
I hope there isn't something already like this? I didn't find anything? I thought it might make a good printable, along with the seed packs etc.

It should print out to the right size (6in.) as long as you have your printer set to 100%
My wife drained my ink cartridges printing out flyers =) so I haven't been able to print test it yet.

Just an idea! =)

cheers

Here is a greyscale, printer friendly version that won't waste color ink.

If someone has a printer & a ruler?
I'd sure appreciate you printing one out & checking size against a real ruler.

Thanks =)

Pretty cool idea, Oregonics!

I printed it out (the gray one) and yes, it measures exactly six inches!

Tygh Valley, OR(Zone 6a)

Thanks horseshoe =)

I live in a pixel world, I don't do a lot of print work (the inches stuff =)
I was hoping I had it right.

Theres still one more thing... How to get it in the pictures?

I was thinking of some 45° folding tabs on the ends?
Fold them back & it would hold the ruler at a 45° angle for plate pics etc., or you could use a paper clip thru a end tab & hang it on the plant?

Any ideas?

Those would work...or glue it to something more rigid (cardboard, ruler, etc). Then it could stay in good shape and be easily used over and over.

Tygh Valley, OR(Zone 6a)

There ya go ;) laminate one!

I'm going to go grab some laminating sheets today, they're cheap. I'll leave some extra on the end & punch a hole in that for hanging!

great idea!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Good idea! I even have a cheapy laminator machine thingy. I forgot all about that.

What's wrong with using a real ruler in the pictures?

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Nothing at all, darius.

Tygh Valley, OR(Zone 6a)

I don't have one, thought something like this would look better too?

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

I love it, I WANT ONE!!!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

I like that fact that it's "DG personalized"! And any pic someone uses it in (forum thread, PDB, etc) will show that it's a "DG Original"!

Ore, that is very nice, really, but you have to remove the Copyright notice.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

what a cool idea! Thanx!

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

It printed to 4 1/2 inches for me. I tried it two different ways. Same result. I guess my printer is set differently.

Tygh Valley, OR(Zone 6a)

I thought it would be kinda neat for pics on DG? =)

Hey Horseshoe, I thought of the watermark too. ;)

Ulrich, I just noticed that, as soon as one of the powers that be give the OK, I will. Maybe they can put it up here or I'll stick it on my server. That'll get rid of the copyright.
I want an official OK before I stick someone elses logo up for download though.
I noticed theres a new DG logo in the works too?

cherishlife, Sorry I'm not much help in the Windows dept. =) Looks like your printer is set to print at 75%?

cheers

Ummm... can't you change your preferences on copyright info, post pics without it or with a different one, then return your preferences to having the watermark/copyright info? Seems I tried that one time when I wanted to post a pic and the copyright info was in a poor location (and really unnecessary, anyway), but I don't remember if I logged out in-between sessions.

Just an idea. :)

I *LIKE* the DG ruler!

I like that. It would be neat if it said davesgarden.com somewhere. That way, if a picture containing it were distributed elsewhere (hey, it happens), it'd point any recipients back to the source! :)

Small voice from the wilderness here ;)

I like the idea, some of us have used currency and at least one has a bit of paper with some measurements on it. Would it be possible to have a ruler with metric on it too please :)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Good point, Baa! And before anyone laminates this...I can't say much but I think you should hold off for a few more days All will become clear then, I promise! ;o)

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Hehehe....another "tease from Terry", Folks!

Ya gotta luv her! :>)

Ahhhhh, as in this..But this is not final.

Not such a small voice Baaa. 20 odd million of us here in Canada are also metric measurers.

How are you BTW,

Hey all =)

I think having the .com on there is a good idea too GW (great watermark) ;) Horseshoe mentioned that too.

I just looked & I do have centimeters as an option in my software. (FireworksMX)
1 inch = 2.54 centimeters Right? =)
Would you folks prefer separate rulers, 1 in inches & 1 in cm's? or a 1-size fits all?

I vividly remember my 2nd grade teacher telling us that metrics would be the world standard in 10 years, I'm 41 now LOL
I can guesstimate the sq footage of a roof from the ground, wouldn't have a clue about the metric equiv.?
Any metric roofers here? What unit of measuement do you guys use for "Squares" of roofing? (ie. 10ftX10ft/100 sq ft.) I'm curious now =)

The 10x system does make more sense, just a trickless old dog I guess? =)

cheers

I remember them trying to change us over to metric when I was in gradeschool. We had little painted wooden sticks starting out in 1 cubic centimeter and going up from there. It never did catch on here in the US. We saw a mention of that on VH1's "I Love the 70's" and it made me remember that botched attempt at going metric.

I think it would be neat for it to show both measures, perhaps one right on the margin and another just above it?
