Reinstation of Tonny

Sue,
Good to see you in here as well J Its amazing, how many familiar faces that is still here. I loved to see your recent pictures of B. x “Ocre New”. It amazes me, how close it comes to the original “B. x candida “Ocre”. I cross my fingers, that it will make a lot of beautiful babies J

Tracey,
How are all the seedlings doing? …. I never forget the pictures that you posted last year of all those big, well feed Brugmansia seedlings. That really for the first time woke me up to realize, how much fertilizers and the perfect balance means. Together with Susie that taught me all about PH-value and its influence on the plants ability to absorb or reject fertilizers it made my seedlings grow extremely fast and look beautiful at the same time. I cannot thank you enough for that J

Monika,
Behind any man, that try to do something of worth for others, there is a woman, but when I am on this crazy quest to ad to create a few decent performing Brugmansia hybrids, you are the woman, that will always stand before me.
Sometimes I even begin to think, that you stand behind it all “lol”

If you were a Tarot-card, you would be both “The Star” and “The Earth” to me, because even though, that I continue to speculate and create all those crazy theories I keep navigating after the advise, that you gives, when I sometimes consult you ... the "Earth", because you are good at grounding me, when I am crazy enough to fly too high believing that any good cross comes easy :)

Shelly,
No, hopefully no one will ever have to say that again J I just looked up your post, where you were in doubt, if you had the B. x candida “Grand Marnier”. Dissappointing as it may sound, I believe that the European “GM” has a thicker flower, That could be B. versicolor and I must admit, that you got me almost envious with it, because it has such a beautiful shape and clear color. If you like to cross Brugmansia B. versicolor can be a plus. It is able to some extend to transfer its own color to the offspring and also sometimes makes the seedlings recepcive to color, when you cross B. versicolor to one, that has white flowers J

Kelley,
My friend, you have added as many smiles on my face as well J Do you remember all those songs, that we used to sing and all the fun we all had? I am looking forward to so much more of that.

Pam,
Thanks. Its good to see you J btw. I note that you are from Texas … do you live any nearby, where Susie lives?

Lani,
The Candied orange peel recipe made my teeth run in water. It is a long time since I tasted these. The shop that sold them closed a couple of years ago, but thanks to you I look so much forward to make them here at home
:D

Hi Tonny!!! Long time no see... Welcome back to DG.
Kristi

Hello Kristi,
Yes, there went a little water under the bridge, but that is what water and bridges are there for :) Are you still growing your Brugmansia seedling, that are immune to bugs? I would love to see a picture or two, if you have the time :)

Frannie,
Okay, I was lurking a bit around, but I promise to post as often as the time allow. I would also love to post a few pictures of, what happened to our garden for Susie and you. How is Lisa doing and yourself as well?

Ada,
I missed you as well, Ada. Has the weather bettered a bit? Gosh! We had the most awful weather here in Denmark as well and thought, that we would not see a decent flush again this year.

Antoinette,
Thanks for enjoying my pictures. I look forward to enjoy yours too :)

Peggy, Gloria, Debbie, Brinda
Thanks a lot. It is so good to be back home again and see so many familiar faces

Shirley,
The same to you, my friend. Great to see you here too. I was not around much on any forum to post much, but wish to take up the connection more for the future.

Susie,
Thanks, Susie. I would love to post a few pics of the changes, we have made here and it would be great also to see pictures from your new garden also. Did you find the time to make the Brugmansia beds and to plant everything out yet? Btw. is there really Gators swimming around free close to, where you live? I wouldn’t dare a swim there, even if Rothkirch was offered me and stood right in front of my nose “lol” I could imagine, if you were asked, if you tossed many seedlings on the compost this year, that you then would answer: “No. None at all, but many went with the Gators”.

Jeanne,
I look forward to talk with you much more and take the threads up, where we left them not so long ago … Folks and Friends, Jeanne learned me much about cooking excellent food for our dogs and that has saved them from a lot of trouble ever since. Terry is feeling so much better now and Snui is a pure energy bomb. Thanks, Jeanne.

Renee,
Waaaahhh! I wish, that I could post newer Datura pictures for you to see, but we only grow D. stramonium, D. tatula and D. quercifolia this year, but real many as we use them as a living fence to provide the Brugmansia with shelter from the wind. How are your own Datura doing and which species do you grow this year?

Welcome back Tonny :D! am so happy to see a good friend come back. WHOPPPPEEEEE!

yes Tonny, am using the Alfalfa pellets on the brugs i grow. it was an experiment i tried earlier part of this year, after doing a lot of research. an experiment that did wonders in the Ca. desert. years prior, i would only have blooms in the late summer, if not in the fall. for the 1st time, i am enjoying brug blooms galore. Alfalfa pellets is the only fertilizer i use these days. roses and gardenia are blooming too! i don't care how others feel about the Alfalfa Pellets concoction but it works for me... that is all that matters.

yeah i still live in the desert, but is anticipating to move out of the area sometime in the near future, either in the San Diego area or perhaps in the Northern area close to the borders of Oregon. that is but a dream, and anticipating to find an ideal area to grow brugs.

having early blooms, living in the desert and working against all odds ... i am observing closely which specie of brugs can survive the elements of the desert. i have 'seen' the odd reaction of some brugs: some do bloom early in flushes, others do form multiple Y's but no blooms, others are merely growing tall. i would guess those would be dependent on where those cuttings were cut from. still observing and learning.

i have not planted any datura this year to see if i can avoid the heavy infestation of cucumber beetles. this year, they are not as heavy as the previous years. at the moment i do still deal with them, but not as heavy as when i grew daturas.

i wonder if those cuke beetles are soil borne? i wondered about that cuz they appear only on areas where daturas were formerly growing.

i do miss growing daturas though, perhaps next year, i will plant the daturas in a designated area all their own away from the brugs. i still have a few seeds i saved from last year. i know u once mentioned those seeds are viable for a few more years if not longer.

see u around dear friend :).

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I loved your song.. lol now Kell again will have someone to sing in harmony with. How wonderful!
I wish I could take credit for the B. Versicolor, but it isnt mine. It is in a conservatory here, with the perfect climate all the time. I will take your advice about the versicolors for down the road! Thank you so much!

Tonny, I am still working on the beds. I do have gators swimming freely in the resaca(like a river, but slower moving) which borders my back yard. I haven't seen any in a few weeks, someone said they moved about a mile upstream. You wouldn't come help me weed the gardens by the gator even for an RK plant?
We went down to the edge of the water tonight. The neighbors said there's lots of wildlife down there after dark. I saw ducks, frogs and jumping fish(they jumped when the light hit them, don't know what they are) but no gators.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Eclipse,

No one can replace you! We all appreciate you so much. I have a Metallica EE here I am growing for you. Just say the word. I will be in Des Moines in about a week.
regards,
a

Oh, Kyle "lol" No need to cry over anything, nor this night or on any other night to come :) After reading Lockwoods thesis I realized that we today are lightyears ahead in our knowledge of Brugmansia and the possibillities hidden in their genes. One of the best articles ever written on hybridizing with Brugmansia is your article of Nov 08, 2003; "Evaluating seedlings". With the article you gave Brugmansia hybridizing a lift up to the highest level and will be a part of many of the hybrids, that will find release in the future :)

Kelley, I was about to say hello yesterday, but was interupted by a street party with all of our dear neighbours and today we had guests all day. We were at the local manison today to see the large park they have there and later Lene was out to watch a theatrical piece, while I was running up and down in the garden trying to form an impression of the wierdlings in bloom for first and second flush. Lillith is pretty stabile in shape and color as is Fairy Queen, but King of Diamonds played tricks on me. First part of the same flush was white shaped like L`Amour, the next cream yellow and the tube broader and they started to hang down and those that opened yesterdat are golden with orangy edge and hangs there as tiny B. versicolor imitations. Now I can only cross my fingers that the name still fits the plant, when the flowers settle for its definite shape and color as I am guilty of naming at leat a few too early.

Glad you're back Tonny!

Mary,
Yes, I sure can`t complain.

Sherri,
Nah, that must have been for the weekend “lol” I will probably hang for keep saying hello and bump up this thread for, what seems as forever

Karyn,
I will do the best that I can. Do you grow any yourself this year? Btw. Is B. suaveolens x “First Day” not your hybrid? It has BUDS and leaves are doing great in direct sunlight. If you want to know anything about it growing in my environment I would love for you to e-mail me a line

Eva,
That is in deed a wonderful name that you have chosen. I would love to start posting, but right now I “ROFLOL”. That was probably something that you said. Thanks for making me laugh so often

Thanks, Larry :) I noted your post about Gypsy Queen by Eric Knight as I grow here in my environment too. It hasn`t bloomed yet, so it was nice looking at your pictures :)

Thanks, Delecie. Great impersonation. I am looking forward to many more to come. Yeah, Brugmansia growing and humor often goes hand in hand. Did you ever read the old thread, where we all fantasized, that we were honeybees on a raid into Monika’s Brugmansia alley on the lookout for Rothkirch pollen?

Trish,
Yes, I understand perfect, what you mean. Life is full of surprises and I didn`t even guess that you were here at DG. When did you sign up?

Scooter,
Hugs to you as well, Scooter. How is your sun/ shade garden-project going? I did misplace most of the Brugs and it would be great to get some advice

Debby,
I am glad, that you are here as well. I read up on your thread about your Clematis 'Tangutica' Radar Love. My own knowledge about Clematis equals zero, Debbie, so I would like to ask, if you know, what it is, that Lene and I are growing? … it blooms one the first year shoots and is blooming from June through August …
Thanks
Tonny

Vi,
Thanks. I am so used to that Lene, think that I talks way too much, so your words fell on a dry spot. Btw. I remember promising you pollen from Heartbeat. However, she hasn’t bloomed for me yet this year, but I will keep you in mind, when she does. I loved to look at pictures of Stardancer and that would be so cool, if Stardancer x Heartbeat would throw out a few decent hybrids with that remarkable edge, that are so typical for both :D

Hi Linda,
Good to see you too.
