This was the trench dug to install the sewer lines to our house. If you were standing at this end of the picture where I was pointing and clicking, you would be over the old septic tank. They don't take the tank out, they sledgehammer the lid, drop it down inside (after emptying it first tho), then they fill it with sand. Of course they have to fill in the entire trench too.

We put in some new top soil and planted sod.

This morning before work, I made my garden rounds, everything was fine.

Our rainy season was a little slow getting started. This afternoon it poured really hard and for quite a while and didn't let up til after 6:30 or so.

After the rain let up, I go out to make my garden rounds and it was a good thing I was watching my step because I found this sink hole. (Actually a true sink hole is caused by lack of rain when the water table goes down, leaving empty space, then the land just falls down to fill that void.) In this case there was major settling of the sand he used to fill the trench.

This was the gap at the end of the septic tank where it joins to the drain field. It's about 1 1/2 feet deep.

Guess we'll give good ole Mike a call to bring some sand and top soil over and fill it. Hope he's still in a mood to being a good guy. I'll keep smiling, it will probably help.

What a mess, but thankfully your post was NOT the really large sink holes I remember from Florida. (I was afraid maybe half your house had fallen in one!)

No, sorry Darius, didn't mean to startle you.

We are having another onslaught of rain this afternoon and I will have to check on the hole again when it stops.

I am not going to complain....we really needed the rain and the gardens love it!!
