They have enforced the restrictions on the import of plants, especially on all Solanaceas. It is not permitted to import rooted plants or cuttings.
Unrooted cuttings are permitted but a phytosanitary certificate is needed. If they find a illegal import, it will be reported back to the goverment in charge of the sender. A fine will be charged from both the sender and receiver of the package, especially when they find plants of the same species on the place of the receiver.
The reason for all this is a bacterium, which was imported with sick plants and is now spreading in nursery stock.
Carmela, the mother of many seedlings
Can that bacteria not be in the cuttings? I guess I'm asking why not rooted cuttings? This might be a good subject to put in a thread of it's own so people don't miss it.
They told me the name of the bacteria but I forgot it. To my knowledge it is a root- and soil bound bacteria but I ask.
Last year, they talked about even stopping all imports of all Solanaceae.
What about Tissue Culture, Monika?
Tissue propagated plants loose all advantages of adaption, the mother plants have aquired in outside cultivation.
What a beauty Monika! My jaw dropped when I saw the gorgeous glow she has!
Both the mother and daughter Brugs are beautiful!
Love them both. Congratulations
Both are so beautiful!!
