I don't see too many people posting pictures of their hibiscus anymore. They're still blooming aren't they? Mine are. Surely they aren't going out of style. I don't see how that could be. I keep thinking I'm going to trade with people but I don't see people showing their hibiscus anymore. I don't have too many but some. I would love to hear from anyone here with hibiscus. Maybe even see some pictures of blooms.
Where are the tropical hibiscus people?
HI,
I bought new tropical hibiscus from three different places this year ~ the Cajun Hibiscus and exotic hibisus. They are so small they probably won't bloom much until next year. However, the two I received from Hidden Valley Hibiscus in CA have buds and will be opening soon.
Will post pics at that time.
I look forward to seeing pictures of your hibiscus TwinLakes.
Do you know what kind the two getting ready to bloom are?

Small buds on these but not nearly ready to open:

Those are all absolutely gorgeous Arlene!
I hope you are having a good visit in sunny california!
Twin,
Those are very impressive. Dupont really knows what they are doing don't they. I just wish they weren't so pricey on the 4" pots. Maybe I need to look at liner hibiscus. Has anyone here ever ordered liners?
Hidden Valley Hibiscus was higher priced by their plants are more mature. You get what you pay fror!
Moonlighting I have one of those and I am trying to patiently await some buds on it!
Fingers crossed for you Alice!
Thanks moon I am sure it get some soon now!!!!!!
For sure! LOL....
BugFreak,
Here is my first new one blooming - finally!

Twin
That is outstanding!!! My goodness that is soooooo pretty!!!! I would love to have a start off any of those beauties of yours when they get large enough!!!!
Alice,
Maybe I can cut it in the Spring the day of the Round-up and bring it to you that way. Then you can try getting it to root.
Ohhhh no nathalyn! You didn't just do that.....
You people are driving me nuts with these awesome pictures of your plants..
Twin,
Thanks for posting the links above. I can't decide which one to get (maybe I should get one of each). You've hopefully helped me feed my addiction.
Ahhhhh, but I have more!!!! Just not blooming yet.....
:-)
Nathalyn,
I would love to have any of those except for the last two. I was hoping you had a name for the last one you listed. Some neighbors dug this out of their yard and had it at the curb to throw away. As you might expect, I brought it home and nursed it back to health. I rooted many of this type and my chinese lantern. Nathalyn (and anone else) If you can root some of what you've got I would gladly trade for some passion flowers or anything I might have rooted. I have many rooted passion flowers already. I have 60 different passion flowers or so. I know they can be slow to root.
Keep bringing your other pictures as they bloom. I would love to see them. I agree that Jambalaya might be mismarked.
Nathaln Why don't you send me your address and I will pay a late night visit to your house!!!!
Let me think I will need directions and a map would be helpful. Do you have any dogs????
Those are absolutely stunning, I am so jealous I can hardly stand it!!!!!l
Guess I know what I will be spending money on next spring!!!
Thanks so much for sharing those!!!
aknapp,
You and me both. I can't believe the colors.
I'll drive the get-away car.
Thats great I was hoping for a driver!!! I've got the shovel ready!!! Unless maybe we will get lucky and he has them in pots and we won't have to dig!!!!!
Actually, I will try and get some cuttings rooted. My experience has been that some root easily - - others not at all. Bugfreak and Aknapp, I'll keep you in mind and will let you know what roots.
Some of mine are still small plants, just acquired this year - - and I just cannot let myself take cuttings while they are loaded with buds. I got an unbelieveable deal through ParkSeed this spring - - six Cajun color hibiscus for about $3.00 a piece!
nathalyn,
How in the world did you manage that price? Was it some sort of a sale or something. BTW your dog is beautiful too.
I know what you mean about the buds. I hate cutting them away when I'm rooting small ones.
What a great deal you got on those! They are stunning!
I'm not worried about that guard dog bug I will just bring Yukon with me, he is always ready to go anywhere! I'll bring the extra dog treats! I think we can get past the guard dog!
Don't forget the dark clothing!
You are so kind to offer the cuttings but I agree with you about not doing it until they are done blooming, I am waiting now to do more cuttings on a couple of mine for the same reason.
Bugfreak, Parks had a incredible sale on a collection of 6 back in the spring. Plus when they have their gift certificates on sale for 25% off, I usually will buy MYSELF a couple to save and use later. So when you count the discounted gift certificate, the savings was unreal. At the time I got them in late spring, they were pretty small. But all are blooming and about 12 -18 inches tall now. If you are not already on the Parkseed mailing list, I would advise you to do so.
I did recently buy some rooted hibiscus liners from this ebay seller and was very pleased. Some of the cuttings were really small but healthy: http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=proplants&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50
I think Gizmo would love Yukon - - she is a sucker for a pretty face!
Well I am sure that Yukon would love gizmo also!!! We might be starting a serious friendship with the two of them. I keep thinking I should get another dog, just so Yukon has some company other than me.
Gizmo is a very pretty girl!!!!
Thanks for the link I will check it out.
I love dogs. I have one chihuahua and 2 English bulldogs.
Nathalyn,
Thanks for the link above to the Ebay seller. I'll have to contact her/him to see what they have.
We love dogs at our house too. We have Gizmo (papillon), Dakota (American Eskimo) and Molly (rescue Australian Shepherd) - - plus 2 cats. Sometimes, I think I garden just avoid having to clean all that dog and cat hair that we have!!
BF - - I remember your bulldogs from the RU!
As best that I can tell, if the two of you (Bugfreak and Aknapp) wanted to meet - - - MY PLACE would be about midway!!
Ahh, I see. Was it the Florabama RU or the Georgia RU? I took them to both is why I ask. I don't recall seeing your dogs... Lucky you if you had someone to dog-sit for you while you were away.
You hear that Aknapp? It sounds like a road trip for plant hunting. Maybe one day we can do a mini-swap. I keep saying I want to do one but who knows when I'll actually do one. I guess I have to settle for the RU's for now.
BF, I met you at the spring GARU. And I leave my dogs at the doggie resort when I travel.
It's been a while. I can't wait til the next RU. I think for me it will be MS RU in October or maybe the KYRU. The dogs will be with me again. Atleast this time it will be cooler (I think).
