All of us have computers. Where does yours reside?

Lamar, AR(Zone 7a)

I have an office/guest room. You can't see the third computer. It's an old klunker that's perfect for my 6 year old. LOL no one else wants to use it :)

Ours also resides in our office/guest room. It really has charge of the whole room unless we have a guest, which isn't that often.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

We have what was a 3 bedroom house. We put a double door thru the master and first bedroom to make a master suite. The 3rd bedroom is only about 9X12 and it's our office. We have 3 computers, one for me to play on, one for DH to play on and the 3rd is for both our businesses. (Or if company comes, they can play on that one too.)

2 are Windows 98 and this one is the ME. ( More power for Molly) We have scanner, 2 printers, fax machine, 2 digital cameras and a TV with satellite receiver. It is chock full now, if we have to get a new carpet.....ugh.

We had a master plan when we set the bedrooms up this way.....neither one of our grown children could move back in with us. We have a couple sleeper sofas in the house for company, but no guest room.

It's worked so far, but DH's dd said she wanted to move into the garage. uh uh.That dog don't bark. LOL

Well, this is taken pre-painting and the blinds are closed because of the glare, but mine is in the living room, smack in the best corner of the house for views. Both the left window and the right look onto the ocean. I can watch the screen with one eye and dolphins with the other. I work from home and wanted the nicest possible locale for atmosphere.

My computer is a laptop and resides on my lap in the living room :) or in my bed or in the kitchen. I dont have a desk right now, which might make me a little bit more productive- but this way I can multi task!

Molly, my fiance and I are about to buy that desk on the left side of your picture from office depot- you like it ok?

We were lucky the previous owner ordered this layout with a 9' x 5' computer room.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

was in cold cold middle room now in living room by windows one front house, one side.. soo this is my messy corner next to tv he hates it i said i'll move it back in there (yeah like i would) he says no just leave it there..

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Art, I love that desk. It has the shelf on the bottom to put the cpu and speaker thingy and trash can. The cords can all run down the back and they are out of the way. All the extra shelves is great. The towering design is a great space saver.

That was the last desk we bought and I like it the most. Hey, you are by the big city. Go to office depot on-line, order it, they will deliver COD and when your order is over $50.00, delivery is free.

You'll love it.

P.S. Now all we need is a flat panel monitor to maximize desk space. My dh got me one for Christmas, on the desk you can't see.

We have a bonus room upstairs where our two desktops (only one really working) are. Then we have the laptop where we use anywhere with the wireless (which I LOVE).

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Mine is in my loft bedroom.. a quite large room about 20 x 25. The monitor is situated on the end of my desk so I can look out at some flowers on the deck, and the lake beyond them.

Mine is in the dining room where I can take care of the kitchen and see who is at the front door at a glance.......
Don't know how we got along without these little time eaters all these years..........LOL

LOL Isn't that true Willow? It's unbelievable how much time I spend on the computer. If its not games, its a forums, or plants or...gosh 8-|

Zone 6, OH(Zone 6a)

Spare bedroom on a computer desk...but need more room :( Also have a laptop with wireless, but I rarely use that at home because it's mainly for work. Use it when I need to though.

Speaking of wireless...a word of caution to you wireless users (ESPECIALLY those of you that live in subdivisions or near other homes!). Never ever install your wireless access point with the default settings. I work in an IT dept and one of our managers that runs our LAN/WAN likes to be funny and test other people's security, or lack thereof. He drove down the road of several neighborhoods with his laptop fired up (with wireless network interface card). He said he came upon many, many wireless access points he was able to connect to and use without any authentification at all. This means for example, that people that live close by can do the same thing...use your internet service for free. I read a story online somewhere of a network guy that did the same thing...drove down the road and stumbled on hundreds of access points open to the world (San Francisco/San Jose area in this case). So just be careful. Your user guide should have pretty simple instructions on how to setup your wireless hub/switch so that it's secure, for your use only.

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

You've got a great set up there, Molly. DD wants to live in the garage, huh? Good luck on that one. LOL! I am really looking forward to seeing you at the KYRU. I hope nothing happens to mess up your plans.

Lamar, AR(Zone 7a)

Agreed HC

Unfortunately many of those who have wireless networks have no clue how to manipulate the settings (myself included) Granted if I owned a wireless network I would read the instructions and do the best I could.

Downfall of computers/internet technology is that people don't know how to use it properly to protect their privacy. I spend alot of time with my computers at home and work. I think I'm self sufficient but I know there are many areas that could be improved (home networking/firewalls/virus protection/publishing webpages/etc, etc etc). Technology changes so quickly its hard for the average person to keep up.

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

The one I usually use in on my desk at work. But, that is probably not what you were looking for. :p

At home, the one I use the most is in our living room in an armoire. Occasionally, I will use on of the laptops that I can't seem to get my husband to remove from the family room. They sit on the coffee table in front of the TV most of the time. ...and, yes, there are network cables running across the carpet. (Grrrrr) I will sit at the couch with it on my lap. My husband does a lot of computer work and experimenting so with the laptops, we probably have ten computers in the house. 3 running as various servers, 3 or 4 as desktops, and two or three laptops - I can't keep up.

The extra bedroom which began as a TV/Library room has now been invaded and conquored by Mr Mac and his cohort, PC the Terrible.

balvenie, being prejudiced, I loved your descriptive words, "Mr Mac and his cohort, PC the Terrible"!!

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

Hc that's funny because I live in an apartment and use wireless. I can chose from like 6 different wireless connections, only one of which I'm paying for. But since I am paying for it, I only use my own. Who knows how many people in this apt are getting it free.

I'm glad to know you like it Molly- we love how it's a tower so it takes less space. We've been looking high and low for the perfect desk and I think that's it.

PC the terrible..LOL!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I think we should have a thread in Computer Talk about wireless network basics. Sounds like it would help a lot of folks. Jon, want to start one? The rest of us can chime in with links and other info, then.

This is Howie's computer spot. He has a laptop, so he's usually comfy in his chair with the girls. My spot is beyond cluttered right now, and I see I don't have any pictures from when it looked good. That'll have to wait!

Mine lives in a spare bedroom lined with plant lights and shelves. I have a good view of my front flower beds in summer and can keep an eye on what needs care during our long dark winter.

Ok Gardenwife....

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Mine is usually on my lap too! In my sun/hot tub/garden room most of the time, the best of all worlds, lol. I've been known to be in the tub, typing away...can anyone beat that?

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

Mine is a 14" Mac Powerbook, completely wireless and covered with garden dirt. (I promised TC a pic but I have been travelling so I will get to doing that when I recover from the trip trip!)

Main place is in my propagation lab/sunroom/laundry room. My drawing table is there. Otherwise it is outside in the gazebo for the nice breeze. The main reason to come into the laundry room is that I have these super awesome harmon Kardon speakers and I stream music for the entire house and garden. They have to go into my usb for now but by summer's end, they won't. ; )

The other reason to be in here is my gardening books, seed storage and rootings! LOL I sound like a garden nerd with sound!

PS- PC and Mac alike, if you have speakers & broadband, download itunes and use the radio.

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Oooooooooo .. balvenie .. such sleek clean lines! .. and way TOO tidy!! Does anyone actually live and work there ?!? .. HEE ..

(ah-HA! .. you cheated! .. you cleaned and tidy'd 1st, didn'tcha?!?)
... LOL ... LOL ...

Nawwwww - truly nice set up! .. and way cool clarity in that pic too! What cha shootin' with ? Tell us ...

Lamar, AR(Zone 7a)

I have a LAN connection outside underneath my pool shed. I can be on the laptop and watch the kids in the pool. I was very thankful when my sweetie suggested putting a line out there! He even dug a trench for the wire to run through a pvcpipe underground. He didn't want an unsightly wires strung all over the place ;)

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Osteole .. ya got a cleva fella, 'ey? .. Mitey sweet of him !

Lamar, AR(Zone 7a)

'Tis he is clever! The man can do anything he sets his mind to. Now if I can just get him to throw his beer tabs in the trash instead of the counter-tops! *taps foot*

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Have him build a cool beer tab box and face it with tile. Maybe then he'll use it! ;)

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

In the computer room...formerly the dog's bedroom...now he has the living room...

Lamar, AR(Zone 7a)

Good idea Gardenwife. Why dont you write up a proposal and I'll give it to him! LOL

Santa Clara, CA(Zone 9a)

We have a whole room for the computers, etc. Then my DH decided we should wire the rest of the house to be online. So we have connections in the living room, dining room and even a connection outside to our travel trailer (what my DH calls his dog house). Right now we have four computers set up all over the house because my FIL bought a new computer and dumped his old ones off on us and we are fixing up to pass on to the neighbors.

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

magpye, The camera is a little Olympus Stylus 300.It isn't TOO much smarter than me so we get along OK. I didn't tidy up the room, just neglected to show the "other" side.

Thumbnail by balvenie
Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

I didn't tidy up my room either, as you could see. Even the trash can't be emptied until I clear it with DH. He sometimes uses it as an intermediary file cabinet. LOL
