I recently had a question posed to me by someone wanting to know who at the upcoming KY Roundup has been on DG the longest. I went back to a thread I started ages ago to see how I had presented the information (and sought it out) back then.

My question is: Is there a way to determine what "number" we are now?

It is a bit tedious to work out, but if you go to the member list page, well down the page is a browse by date of sign-up. Find out what month you signed up, then add up all the sign-ons for all the previous months. Then click on the month you enrolled and search for the day you enrolled (they are in date order). Each page has 50 enrolments, so you can then work out your number. I worked mine out that way, as number 34187.

There were already 2746 members who had signed in before me.

Why not display that number beside the date of first sign-in? If it is easier to do?

Maybe I can add that to my member page so I won't forget it.

Better? I finally remembered how to edit my member page and put it there.

I did away with member numbers quite some time ago. The best way now to find out who has been on the site longer is to just go by their signup date.

You can find someone's signup date by putting your mouse over a person's name and reading the dropdown box, or visiting their member page.

Don't much care for the column width thing. Holding the cursor over the name lets you know when the member joined. Can't figure out why it matters what no. you are on the list of members. Not really a useful fact like location and growing zones are. :>) ~Blooms

Good point, Dave. At the last GARU we added sign-up dates to our nametags.

(BTW, the cursor thing doesn't work in Safari.)

Blooms, I think that information is just some simple fun at the RU's, but now that I think it through, sign-up date is probably better, and certainly easier to get. I agree it has no relevancy here on the threads.

The broken safari browser is exactly the reason that the date also appears on the member page. :)

I've never known the 'cursor thing' not to work on the Safari browser.

Yes, new. I changed it from the old "a title" to the new "abbr" tag. It will look differently than before now.

Now the sign up date and everything else is gone from cursor over name (no place,etc. either) What happen?? I don't have Safari

Baa, I'm using Safari 1.0.2. When I put my cursor over someone's name, it changes the color but I do not get the drop down box.

Dave, I guess I'll get accustomed to the Italics in the names. Just looks strange because it's new.

I'm using Safari 1.2.2 perhaps thats the difference?

Blooms those of us using a Mac tend to use Safari as a browser rather than IE. As for the short hijack of the thread, my apologies :) I don't mind not knowning a persons member number, it was fun to see how the site has grown since I've been about though

I like the idea of "date of signup" on the nametags. That's a nice touch. It would solve the question here, too. I just immediately thought of that old thread.

Is it true that the date of your sign up could be the day you became a MEMBER...but not a SUBSCRIBER...I have seen people on that says they just joined "today"....but their date with the cursor might show a month...or a year ...ago. Or was that my memory doing stupid things again? Jo

Yes rr, I became a member Nov. 22, 2003 but didn't become a subscriber until Dec. 13, I think. :) I think your memory's all there still!
