Recently I was in Bethlehem, CT (western CT) and visited Glebe House, an historic site that happens to have a garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll. Supposedly one of her very few gardens in the US. They say it's been restored. Though in need of weeding and deadheading, it was really quite interesting.
What struck me was the "dottiness" of it, when I always thought her designs were more "drifty" and gradated, color-wise. Has anyone here been to Glebe House? Or any ideas/opinions on Jekyll's designs? I do have a few photos but they don't really capture the overall feel of the place.
CT Jekyll garden
if you can, please post the pictures, I'd love to see them, even if they don't capture the feel of the place.
Me too, Lisa, I want to see pics too.
I found this. http://www.theglebehouse.org/photo.jsp
Looks like a gorgeous place. By dottiness, do you the plants didn't flow from one to another and seemed disjointed as a whole? I'm going to go research her some more- it seems interesting and maybe I can discuss it with you with some more knowledge. :)
How exactly do you restore a garden? Replant the things she wanted in certain places? And how do you restore a garden and not weed!? :)
